Eidson dominated the weekend, starting both races from the pole position and leading every lap on offer to take home two victories in his No. 24 Kelly-Moss\/Racing for Children\u2019s Porsche entry.<\/p>\n<p>There was yet more champagne to spray as KMR pilots Kurt Fazekas and Colin Thompson also scored podium finishes in Alabama, with Fazekas placing third in the first IMSA GT3 Cup race while Thompson finished third in the second IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda event of the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/HFdk8wG3a75BYJMDizrMwX1SUbbX5ylOs2gukp1hlmahYew34U35efRAk1Of6umKXNCuyUIKmD84kVzPAK7jyIRTsVHPbHDmut31yBTynItCn1CvXR5NYZ2sHgLfSnKGtuvdwiA9fc7k_X6FekAf1zrkJBGzmRzNvWPYcb8=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/f1047edf-abe7-4baa-8487-a5c9e11caca4.jpg\" width=\"204\" height=\"300\" align=\"right\" \/>weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a fantastic weekend,\u201d said KMR team owner Jeff Stone. \u201cIt has been a great first event with the Children\u2019s Hospital of Alabama, we were able to put everything together and it was a very good weekend. We were also happy with our weekend on the track as well, there were some very strong drives from our guys. It\u2019s great to be surrounded by good people. Everybody is pulling for the same goal and to end up with these results is just fantastic, I couldn\u2019t be happier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kelly-Moss Road and Race fielded four IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA presented by Yokohama entries while the team also continued its development of the Norma M30 in the IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda series.<\/p>\n<p>The IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda will next be in action at Watkins Glen International on\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1451062597\"><span class=\"aQJ\">June 29 \u2013 July 2<\/span><\/span>. The IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA presented by Yokohama will next race at Circuit of the Americas\u00a0in two weeks\u2019 time,\u00a0May 4-6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KMR BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK RACE BY RACE RECAP:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA presented by Yokohama Race 1<\/strong><br \/>\nThe first IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup race of the Barber Motorsports Park weekend marked a dominating run for series rookie Jake Eidson, who put on a clinic at the Alabama road course. Claiming the pole position, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/PaAOwKs9P1WvzYrIDorUZn-adhUs26pId2ExNXn6lzykJ6CcUjt89Tpl3AvTGrZm-ioT6rc6m-XFYzjjI9zGPV17Snhv_kUKKRrRhIxujdIOfRdR8RxnzIhAk07TmDot46ShM0dXLuwlrEbbPZWpFiidPWfjSDoeKugSpjxFJg-2L94=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/93db6adb-9901-437a-88a6-3ccbcb06053a.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" align=\"left\" \/>Eidson started from the front row and never looked back, extending his gap over the field to over nine seconds throughout a long green flag run.<\/p>\n<p>Despite two late-race caution periods, Eidson make it look easy as he extended the gap by a few tenths with each lap of the circuit. The race ultimately finished under caution, with Eidson taking the checkered flag first in line.<\/p>\n<p>Eidson hosted a group of children from the Children\u2019s Hospital of Alabama who were thrilled that the winning car carried their handprints and signatures after the team visited the hospital\u00a0on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just trying to do everything I could to stay focused, make no mistakes at all and just save the tires,\u201d said Eidson. \u201cWith the heat and everything, the tires were losing the grip they had at the start of the run. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/x-bAMXirel9ABE-bzXuy6Kg2AKhXDoB7JIBHhmQEWmEaa5tPLOQkO0GI5YT1b0dirr0bwu5kmaO70gkOUW8fs4y5tKQx_B9an-hilbtdRjoiGtwHK25xCIa1o8EoiUTQPz-WRfYZ7nUs5UK0FjF3iosxAm0L1oXNCnKosz2HTyjyvKo=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/2ce4b5ce-9c9c-479f-b5da-0ea6163619ae.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" align=\"right\" \/>I\u2019m just so happy to get a win for Racing for Children and Medical Properties Trust \u2013 they have both had a huge impact on the weekend and I\u2019m just happy to give the kids a win. They were cheering me on and I dedicate the win to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Kurt Fazekas took third in Gold category &#8211; his third podium result of the year. He enjoyed mixing it up with the sister No. 99 Kelly-<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/AnY9h0raufZ9BAs9VMyTMynR69wjg9aeTCIZja5F56UOEMR9UCShhSvklhLYMxH_blKVfXUBdizPycUUABSH6UvoSXZ7Y-Qk-gQtrPv1u0sCaX2p5p7Z_-pznHe3vDqIqlCL3hQ-9f9GAqn9Ldghu1Ofxoz0VM0ArAbZYrA4zKJ0lDE=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/fecc824b-cf7d-47eb-9093-483986cb7c29.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" align=\"left\" \/>Moss Road and Race entry as the two ran together for some time in his debut at the Barber Motorsports Park road course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a tough one, there are not many passing zones out there,\u201d said Fazekas following the podium celebrations. \u201cWe didn\u2019t qualify where we had hoped, and it\u2019s tough fighting all the way from the back to try to make clean passes but it turned out to be a good day for us. I enjoy Barber\u2014it was my first time here and I\u2019m looking forward to coming back in the future. I started to get competitive yesterday and I improved two seconds in my lap time. The race went green before the field was all packed up, so I didn\u2019t get to mix it up like I was hoping to but I was happy with how I was able to improve my times to start the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA presented by Yokohama Race 2<\/strong><br \/>\nSunday\u00a0brought drastically different weather and track conditions from\u00a0Friday\u00a0and\u00a0Saturday\u2019s\u00a0<wbr \/>heat and <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/Zm3l_QuvPjtgYLNoyYWjXBg_V4bvJItnK9j16LIBcceMsNEUIvdvSiH1uxSsCbc18X2tmy1vrz1lZN_kTi2g_eppIeM8av6Mf8IT4avA-cRLcDrIU5XTMEc4UQnFcZy8te0YwhNK5WpyUNij5u4R0Q6XI8LZKxHqoC0AKhXyrYwMmGY=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/597f7954-fc98-4fa3-b778-549b35d9f18f.jpg\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" align=\"left\" \/>humidity, as a storm system moved into the Alabama area with rain and much cooler temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>The second race of the weekend opened under caution due to the rain around the circuit, but when the field went green, Eidson once again put on a show. Despite the rain, which presented challenging driving conditions and a \u2018green\u2019 track, the No. 24\u00a0 Kelly-Moss\/Racing for Children\u2019s Porsche immediately gapped the field with Eidson eventually extending his leading margin to over 15 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, fellow Kelly-Moss Road and Race competitors Kurt Fazekas and Greg Palmer were completing consistent lap times in <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/eHtn-j9v_Qm4Ys7BlbCTFiKo1dfgKXhiUcwgtkSyuvpfcTZ97g08URzKJ7_OCMsV_uKHUlg5f2GCy5dzl30Ik12hkeHW0-FYinon9HxH6i2nv3BDP_w0mycOENXTc_kLQQNLTOn22w-sax97J6DtiHf6g3-UDIRc-ydXqw04ByLy5hs=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/b80bda24-e375-4431-94a5-9f1a82ef216b.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" align=\"right\" \/>the Gold class \u2013 each targeting another solid finish in difficult conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, those tricky track conditions caught Palmer out near the end of the race which brought out a full course caution and ended the No. 44 Copps Industries Porsche entry\u2019s day early.<\/p>\n<p>The race finished under the yellow with Eidson taking the victory and Fazekas earning fourth in the Gold class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rain was a huge curveball &#8211; after the start, I got a good gap and just put my head down and learned the rain line and everything,\u201d said Eidson. \u201cThe rain has been pretty good to us \u2013 I enjoy racing in the rain. It\u2019s usually a bit of an unknown but today it paid off quite a bit. I was really happy to get used to the car and see what these cars are like in the rain. I\u2019m just really thrilled for the team and for everyone at Racing for Children\u2019s and Medical Properties Trust. We put a lot of smiles on everyone\u2019s faces this weekend and that was the goal so I\u2019m really happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda Race 1<\/strong><br \/>\nColin Thompson put the No. 14 Kelly-Moss Road and Race Norma M30 third on the grid for\u00a0Friday\u2019s\u00a045-minute sprint race at Barber Motorsports Park. Despite showing promising race pace through the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/5P-DdzuIGiizVbPiPP4Xk7PY2gOuJjC35xs59U6RpI1RKJMCtBCZ91GaWmk3apGHT6jkvM4ynR-PTtm2f4R3JIQfUKOr2-4Q_BJxD2QLxOxaf_tFQkgkTxqBFZ_zi7OoOpDu1i6D_04m5NZn-RKj35Fo00O6H3A_0_KL__L-bC4t6dg=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/9dfd27e0-ad2b-45a7-a455-d6aa9b97545f.jpg\" width=\"198\" height=\"300\" align=\"right\" \/>beginning stages of the event, the Norma sustained slight contact in the tight confines of the Barber circuit which was enough to affect the handling of the machine. Thompson hung on for fourth at the finish with hopes of a positive outing in\u00a0Saturday\u2019s\u00a0Race 2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda Race 2<\/strong><br \/>\nRace 2\u00a0on Saturday\u00a0saw Thompson open the race from the pole position. He put the Norma M30 in strong position as he led through the opening stages. About half-way through the race, a full course caution bunched the field back up and when the race went back to green, Thompson went into defense mode. Unfortunately, as he made his way into Turn 5, the No. 14 machine got caught out on the dirty part of the circuit which saw Thompson slip to third in line.<\/p>\n<p>Maintaining position up until the checkered flag, Thompson took home his second podium of the year with a third place finish &#8211; after having taken a runner-up finish earlier this year at Sebring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Birmingham, Ala.
