(5 January 2020) \u2013 For the Automatic Racing team, the Roar Before the Rolex 24 goal was simple: get comfortable with the year-old No. 99\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c&amp;id=e65fd74c70&amp;e=d255d81851\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/sundaymanagement.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Da33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c%26id%3De65fd74c70%26e%3Dd255d81851&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1578412110297000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGtd7wM3Cs0BzZSCHCCbSjjpBVhGw\">Invisible Glass\u00a0<\/a>Aston Martin Vantage GT4 on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. \u00a0Looking to return to the podium at the track, the team\u00a0prepared\u00a0 for one of the biggest races of the season: the four-hour BMW Endurance Challenge, race one of the 2020 Michelin Pilot Challenge season (Jan. 24).<\/p>\n<p>The Orlando-based team considers Daytona its home track, which adds to both the pressure and the excitement as preparations ramp up for the season opener at the end of the month. Through six test sessions over three days, the team worked through every kind of weather condition possible, from sunny and warm on Friday afternoon to Sunday morning\u2019s frigid temperatures. The Aston Martin, which made its North American race debut at Daytona last year, continued its progress throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Automatic Racing team and drivers Kris Wilson and Gary Ferrera focused the first three sessions (in warm conditions) on getting Ferrara acclimated to the high banks of Daytona in a different style Aston Martin than the older version he\u2019d driven to the Daytona podium in the 2019 season-opener.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignleft\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/l5eevE6aoYvHnBk0cTD8DZCHMV4q6H5-4G2DcyAp1kKCdJAy8c1vYppC61xAfMr5ejLsfj80tpvJSQ4ig2egfsNaX83wcwtRBcOuEuc6be4Mpay8LZbe0-Ly0LcxRjkkFFIpt_qKDGso2CYmXBws24627VuJ_-rCCfQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/e1b20284-e102-4807-bee9-7abb42a7d803.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" align=\"left\" \/>The final three test sessions were about making setup adjustments and mixing in new and used Michelin tires \u2013 including Sunday morning\u2019s session that began with ambient air temperatures of 50 degrees. The Aston Martin Vantage GT4 handled the changing conditions with ease, as Wilson posted the team\u2019s quickest lap in that penultimate session, pacing at 1:54.638-seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the idea, to build up to speed and figure things out,\u201d said Wilson. \u201cIt was important to get Gary to a good place here with the new car, and he did his best time in the last session. We both drove the old car here last year, with some success, and we both drove the new car later in the season, so we just have to combine those experiences. Sometimes, it\u2019s just a matter of remembering where all the switches and buttons are!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did my best time in that last session, so I\u2019m happy about that,\u201d said Ferrera. \u201cI have to say, I feel as though I could go faster. We have the car dialed in and in pretty good shape, so now I need to dial myself in and focus on the task at hand. This car is very different from the old car: it\u2019s a bit more rigid and doesn\u2019t have as much \u2018grunt,\u2019 and the top end speed that we had last year, though it has more downforce. It was great to have a good amount of test time this weekend to learn how the car handles this track and to work on different setups \u2013 some things worked, some things didn\u2019t, but we\u2019re leaving here in good shape and that\u2019s the whole point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignright\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci5.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/mXzOd3uii-Ok4szkSQU7DsSyx1bCs8WpJnn31ZFIrERJWSp6PqG27gfSLpUol2H3dmYepSbI7UtUudM5RpbYyypKYa73Nrq5oOtgGII-oku58_k532NDYaTeAsKXI5hHCM7u15B725FhWeFvjtoxGF0Umvpxm7l0VKA=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/bcad87a3-49fe-47e5-ac94-cdecfd5dc137.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" align=\"right\" \/>Automatic Racing team principal David Russell was pleased with driver and car progress through the weekend, feeling as though the setup that the team has settled upon will roll off the truck well when they return to the iconic 3.56-mile \u201croval\u201d in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe definitely have a good baseline after this weekend,\u201d said Russell. \u201cWe came up with something for Sunday morning\u2019s session that we were good with, and we stuck with that for the final session.
