(25\u00a0January 2020) \u2013\u00a0 Despite having to make two extra pit stops following\u00a0 tire issues, Taylor Hagler finished 12th in the\u00a0four hour\u00a0IMSA\u00a0Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) season-opener at Daytona International Speedway on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Adding an iconic track to her growing racing resume, Hagler joined an impressive field as 50 IMPC drivers took the green flag on Friday afternoon to kick off the 2020 IMSA season.<\/p>\n<p>Making her first official IMSA start in the No. 77 L.A. Honda World Honda Civic Type R TCR, Hagler\u00a0maneuvered through through the tight turn one in the dynamic two-class race start to emerge from the first lap to run in the top ten.<\/p>\n<p>Settling into race pace, the up-and-coming driver continued to race in top ten position among the 18-car TCR field.\u00a0 Hagler maintained her\u00a0position\u00a0until making her first pit stop on Lap 26 for fuel and four tires. Determined to gain on-track position, she worked\u00a0 through traffic in her Honda\u00a0Civic\u00a0before the first yellow flag\u00a0on\u00a0Lap 35.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignright\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci5.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/_B6TWqVVXTfHO-1uVQ9symMOmiWzJVWuKNo4_8aIqqivMIG8sc_XQbNwbVA1G07AkAwZyepymE0dafB0NUhgb9pnwMOdkjvcp3QwDqq5xDAx3PQV_PrP4CpqFbPZSIzIOAr2dG8qP32jLE-eeQx0pghPNnkVrKDWvEE=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/578502f3-db5a-4c0d-b77e-6fc634e49125.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>Hagler made her second pit stop under yellow, optimizing the caution period\u00a0to maximize her track position upon the return to green flag racing. With a full tank of fuel and fresh tires, Halger\u00a0laid down\u00a0her\u00a0fastest lap of the race\u00a0of 2:02.024-seconds\u00a0following the restart.<\/p>\n<p>Having already demonstrated her level-headed approach to challenging situations, Hagler added another chapter to that record as she managed to keep control of the car despite suffering a front right tire puncture under high-speed braking for turn one. Taking to the pit lane with a slow lap to address the issue just ahead of the two-hour mark, Hagler turned the Honda Civic Type R TCR controls over to co-driver Ryan Eversley.<\/p>\n<p>Eversley began to move back up the order with a car that was impacted by the first tire puncture\u00a0when a\u00a0second front right tire puncture called the experienced Honda driver into\u00a0pit lane\u00a0on Lap 101. A late caution period came with 14-minutes remaining, but was unfortunately too large of a cleanup, leaving the race to conclude under yellow. Hagler and Eversley\u00a0completed the opening\u00a0IMSA\u00a0event 12th\u00a0on the grid.<\/p>\n<p>Hagler walked away from her Daytona International Speedway debut with more racing knowledge, confidence and is eager to put the lessons to use in her next\u00a0IMSA\u00a0outing\u00a0at Sebring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignleft\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/eLhwmBA4xAdmo_H1lTdYBgiLovuDCC83J71we-JGLJHaIa6bwfP_uiIq8ZpMHNS1ejMqn_T8Ryiq_IBljdagMMwqOkQHEFI9ySGBEFn8A0IXUj2FJA3VtERwAADb1AdM8beAyHVdIetJX86PBYRYW60t3Iwh4LYnPpI=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/1292b014-6337-427a-b329-cf09bcd13a0b.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\u201cWith it being my first IMSA start, I was\u00a0a little\u00a0nervous\u00a0heading to the green flag,\u201d said Hagler.\u00a0\u201cWhen we were all lined up\u00a0and\u00a0ready\u00a0for\u00a0the green flag it all fell into place &#8211; I locked in on what I needed\u00a0to accomplish. I maintained my pace and worked\u00a0on\u00a0trying to gain speed wherever I could. The tire puncture was very unfortunate and ended up cutting my stint early. Having issues\u00a0made\u00a0the day frustrating, but I learned more than I could have imagined from this experience. I am looking forward to getting to Sebring and taking the No. 77 L.A.
