{"id":2402,"date":"2020-09-08T20:29:04","date_gmt":"2020-09-09T00:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/?p=2402"},"modified":"2023-05-03T16:04:01","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T20:04:01","slug":"rebel-rock-racing-wins-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/index.php\/2020\/09\/08\/rebel-rock-racing-wins-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Rebel Rock Racing Wins Again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BRASELTON, GA (6 Sept. 2020) \u2013 Rebel Rock Racing turned in its best performance of the season on Sunday, taking the lead with 15 minutes remaining and cruising to victory in the VP Fuels Stay Frosty Coolants&nbsp;240 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, its first triumph in 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge competition.<br><br>Robin Liddell took the checkered flag in the No. 71 Urban Grid Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R leading by a comfortable 10.621-seconds, joining Frank DePew and Andrew Davis in victory lane.&nbsp;<br><br>The three drivers didn\u2019t set a wheel wrong throughout the four-hour race \u2013 the second endurance race of the year \u2013 as the series reached its midway point of the 2020 season. What had been a frustrating season quickly turned around to the form that saw Rebel Rock score a series-leading two victories in 2019.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/YsLCbUynkEzljCSvTmiwg5Lvvz4bhVeY2kaRFXdvL8sp81WoditbE8SCZKer4PMeceh0n65Ycshk_astDAp81VPQ-pI-OMgTFD5I46zJId_wEcHyhOmBI3bat6_r93OYpcaj4D_NsvYtzcgd9VvGXI4bBSWyHUf4vp2LMw=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/a964d50e-5e98-4b39-9790-3eacac8b0817.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe whole team did a fantastic job today,\u201d said Liddell, scoring his 12<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;triumph in the series, and eighth co-driving with Davis. \u201cEveryone has worked incredibly hard to make this whole operation the best it can be. It\u2019s one of the most outstanding groups I\u2019ve ever worked with. Thanks to Frank (DePew), who has made it all happen as well as his driving which has come on tremendously. The guys in the pits did an awesome job. Everyone, to a man, has worked flat out to be the best we can be.\u201d<br><br>DePew drove the opening stint. Qualifying 18<sup>th<\/sup>, he was quickly up to 15<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;and was scored 14<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;when he pitted after completing his opening stint behind the wheel.&nbsp;<br><br>\u201cI\u2019ve been coming to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for quite a while, and I\u2019m really happy to win here,\u201d said DePew, taking his third professional victory. \u201cI\u2019ve got to credit the whole crew, the job Robin has done managing this team, and having Andrew join us for the four&nbsp;hour races is icing on the cake. We\u2019ve put together a great team, and they\u2019ve gelled. It\u2019s been amazing. I was struggling earlier this weekend. But as usual I race better than I qualify, which is something I need to fix, however my stint went great. I jumped positions during the first few laps, and held the positions and brought the car in. Then, the crew performed flawlessly and Andrew and Robin did the rest. It was all good and this feels awesome!\u201d<br><br>Davis took over in 14<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;as caution waved during the pit stop. He then began his march through the field. He took the lead briefly with one-hour, 25-minutes remaining, and then ran second for four laps before turning the Camaro over to Liddell with one-hour, 15-minutes remaining.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/O4Au61uWODYu3j1RhmwRU94X_Q6DYYnMHZNS5-ycba4Tc_FAe7HDU_k8T0e9ESRCvdGYD5oLZdPz8H6Rcznd5AzMYDyKolKnpr2fc3TT675pbRkyBipcpfKqsRNtbknIbnw5odkSHGQn9oelPsvSE8Dgk7paXr4KnweU9g=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/5eaff08c-a7f5-47be-978f-3f3e93d7c400.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrank did a great job in the car and kept it clean,\u201d said Davis, who resides in nearby Athens, Ga. \u201cI did only two laps in practice, but it\u2019s a great car and I was able to push really hard right off. I had great battles throughout the run. To have another a victory in my own back yard is tremendous\u201d.&nbsp;<br><br>\u201cUnfortunately for the rest of the field, we were able to put a fresh Robin out there for the last bit of the race, so I think I did my job today,\u201d Davis continued. \u201cWinning was very satisfying and emotional. As a four-year-old kid, I was here watching the GTP drivers \u2013 all my heroes \u2013 racing. And that little kid\u2019s still in here. I\u2019m only 42, and there\u2019s a lot of fight still in me.\u201d<br><br>While NBC Sports Gold commentators frequently remarked about the braking capabilities of the Camaro, Davis explained that they were less than optimal.<br><br>\u201cWith the heat, we struggled a bit with our braking capacity,\u201d Davis admitted. \u201cI hadn\u2019t been in the car since Daytona, when the temperatures were cooler, and the car wasn\u2019t quite as sharp on the braking as it normally is. That hurt us in close quarters. The car was really good in the high-speed stuff, but under braking, I didn\u2019t quite have as much confidence as I normally do.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/1y9AQ4KA-dhL88_0tEqRMABXIlEkhuj4IYpNJQEyx-J2G8j0JfIsYPvIoP8G3cGN4uF84G45i1jw77I7RDE9i0ptAPage28vNclz4ZT--ed9J2kytsVANr1A7U3kMUPset6Nq0PHAl19d_AumAcB2nArRLLwCeP_GUwKpA=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/048bf47b-066b-421d-8352-b238db326509.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rested and ready, Liddell quickly got back up to second, and pressured the leader for five laps. Rather than make a bid for the lead, though, the team opted to make its final stop with 40-minutes remaining. Liddell took on only left-side tires, beat the former leader out of the pits, and returned to the race running fifth in Grand Sport.&nbsp;<br><br>Liddell cycled back into contention, taking third with 31-minutes remaining and waited for the top two to make their pit stops. The final contender pitted with 15-minutes remaining, giving Liddell a 4.819-second advantage. With victory in sight, Liddell gradually pulled away to take the victory.<br><br>\u201cMy hat\u2019s off to Michelin,\u201d Liddell said. \u201cThe tires were fantastic, and that allowed us to double-stint those right-side tires for the last 40 minutes. The Chevrolet Camaro from Pratt &amp; Miller is a phenomenal car, and with the Michelin tires it was unstoppable today. Our pit stop strategy was timed to perfection; overall it really was a great job by the crew.\u201d<br><br>Up next for Rebel Rock Racing will be a double-header weekend at Mid-Ohio on Sept. 26-27, during the IMSA Acura Sports Car Challenge.
