Detroit, Mich. (2 June 2017) \u2013 Stevenson<\/span> Motorsports<\/span> scored the team\u2019s first ever IMSA WeatherTech TOTAL Pole award with the No. 57 Audi R8 LMS\u00a0on Friday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0after Lawson Aschenbach posted a fast lap time of 1:30.200 in qualifying for\u00a0Saturday\u2019sDetroit Grand Prix. Aschenbach will start the 100-minute race before turning the car over to his Stevenson<\/span> Motorsports<\/span>co-driver, Andrew Davis to take the finish\u00a0on Saturday.<\/p>\n

A jam-packed two-day IMSA WeatherTech event saw the Stevenson<\/span> Motorsports<\/span> crew prepare for two 90-minute practice sessions ahead of the 15-minute qualifying session\u00a0on Friday<\/span><\/span>. The combined practice effort of Aschenbach and Davis landed the sole GTD Audi entry at the top of the time charts for the start of the IMSA Chevrolet Sports Car Classic.<\/p>\n

This year marks Stevenson<\/span> Motorsports<\/span>\u2019 second season racing in IMSA WeatherTech competition teamed up with Audi Sport customer racing. The team has accumulated 11 TOTAL Pole awards in Continental Tire Sports Car GS Competition and 13 TOTAL Pole awards in GT competition.
\nAschenbach \u2013 who qualified the car \u2013 put together a flawless qualifying run that brought home the Total Pole Award after laying down a 1:30.200.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe GTD class is the most competitive class in IMSA right now,\u201d said Aschenbach. \u201cThere are so many good teams and drivers and to get a pole in this class means so much. I am so proud of these guys at Stevenson<\/span> Motorsports<\/span>. We have had our ups and downs this year and we didn\u2019t get to show our potential until now. To come here and get a pole and rebound after the first four races is a testament to this team and the fight that they have in them. Most importantly I have to thank Johnny Stevenson<\/span>, our team owner. I think this pole is a really great indication of where this team is going to be for the upcoming races.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis, who will share the seat with Aschenbach for\u00a0Saturday\u2019s\u00a0race couldn\u2019t be more proud of the team effort to pull out a top qualifying spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really proud of the team today and we rolled off of the trailer with good momentum,\u201d said Davis. \u201cBoth Lawson and I have been on the same page for what we want with the car and our engineer Steve Newey and the whole team made it all happen. We were really hoping for a P1 in qualifying and Lawson did a great job to pull out a great lap time in the end. We are really happy with the team and we are looking forward to carrying this momentum into\u00a0tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
