The outing will mark Allmendinger\u2019s 15th Rolex 24 with MSR, having claimed three podium finishes in the annual race.<\/p>\n<p>MSR will kick off the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season looking to once again fight for overall wins with the Acura Prototype and targeting its second Rolex 24 victory. After competing in GT competition at Daytona the past three race seasons, Allmendinger will return to his roots onboard the No. 60 MSR Acura Prototype.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than anything, I am so pumped for Mike (Shank) and the team to become a factory Acura DPi team,\u201d said Allmendinger. \u201cNo one deserves this more than Mike Shank. That year was the beginning of 14 starts at the 24 hour event with the Ohio-based team.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0nearly two decade long relationship between Allmendinger and MSR has seen him race 8,692 laps around Daytona International Speedway, collect three Rolex 24 podiums, and one coveted 2012 Rolex 24 victory.<\/p>\n<p>It took just six years for Allmendinger to bring home the team\u2019s first-ever Rolex 24 Hour victory in 2012, a memory that will stick with him and MSR forever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was probably one of the biggest moments in my career,\u201d said Allmendinger, who has led every single Rolex 24 he has entered save for one. \u201cMike and MSR worked so hard to get that win, and to be a part of such a monumental victory in the team\u2019s career is something that I will always cherish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignleft\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/ROksTibW5QttfBWx0Sfnre-i59qzZv4NKRU0faGcSUZXx7e6VhBPtcjRtUUeI4YM1Gp94xw0ZQG5o5LgQUpTkz11LLxD-SUbdvi8ElMmCuIBtd7r2EItvIJ11TMwN_z-pZbnvQ-iStMwPO3khtff99BPr4YxbM_RHNxZSg=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/_compresseds\/a98cfb8f-6b17-4fe8-8164-d032795f8942.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/>Allmendinger progressed with MSR in 2018 as he made his first Rolex 24 start with the team\u2019s Acura NSX GT3 &#8211; his first time competing onboard a GT car in the twice around the clock event. The endurance veteran\u00a0drove to a second place finish that year with Alvaro Parente, Katherine Legge and Trent Hindman.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 season will see Allmendinger\u2019s career come full circle has he makes his 15th Rolex 24 start with Meyer Shank Shank Racing and competing for another overall victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always feel so fortunate and lucky to have the opportunity to drive for my close friend Mike Shank and everyone at the Meyer Shank Racing team for my 15th attempt at the Rolex 24,\u201d said Allmendinger. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to get back to Prototype racing. The DPi machines are very quick and look so fun to drive. I am sure it will take me a few laps to get used to the speed and downforce, but I\u2019ll be surrounded by a great team and I know that I will get up to speed fairly quick.
