(2 June 2017) \u2013 As the checkered flag flew in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying session\u00a0on Friday, <span class=\"il\">VISIT<\/span><span class=\"il\">FLORIDA<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Racing<\/span> found themselves celebrating as the No. 90 <span class=\"il\">VISIT<\/span> <span class=\"il\">FLORIDA<\/span><span class=\"il\">Racing<\/span> Gibson-Riley sat atop the timing charts with a fast time of\u00a01:24.693-seconds set by Renger van der Zande during the 15-minute run.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/URRis33XBnVXVUcLVeQOkbQtkuAco2jel04qbdFGVKAjpJ6VTCNlOMy3AyEN70sB-Gn1nBA-Gf1ORMfrUlunXu5Bkc67UbTgLDjDES-L2Yo3JMQHp0seNwamqa1yK2zopkYzLb4i8y69R89JyfM-GML6Ee4xpaeA6iTOseE=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/592b90ab-f1c8-4029-9071-88277484db3c.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" align=\"right\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But with the session cut short by a red flag, IMSA deemed that the minimum green-flag time had not been reached and the grid would instead be set by championship points.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, that saw Renger van der Zande and his co-driver Marc Goossens lose out on what would have been a debut pole position for the Riley\/Multimatic combination,\u00a0though the team was still thrilled with the lap van der Zande was able to put in.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel very comfortable at this race track,\u201d said van der Zande, who has won the previous two Detroit events in the PC category. \u201cI think we made some nice changes to the car. Marc (Goossens) was in the car this morning he was just making it better and better. Then I jumped in and made one final change. But we made another change for qualifying \u2013 we\u2019re working hard and it\u2019s paying off! I\u2019m very happy with this. It\u2019s a shame we\u2019re starting on points because I\u2019d love to start on pole!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"il\">VISIT<\/span> <span class=\"il\">FLORIDA<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Racing<\/span> brought the <span class=\"il\">Florida<\/span> weather with them to Detroit\u00a0on Friday\u00a0with sunny skies and pleasant temperatures greeting the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Belle Isle for Round 5 of the 2017 championship. Similar weather is expected for race day with <span class=\"il\">VISIT<\/span> <span class=\"il\">FLORIDA<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Racing<\/span> looking to shine on the streets of Belle Isle.<\/p>\n<p>With\u00a0Saturday\u2019s\u00a0race just 100 minutes in length, the <span class=\"il\">VISIT<\/span> <span class=\"il\">FLORIDA<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Racing<\/span>team will perhaps look to mix up the strategy for the short sprint.<\/p>\n<p>The Detroit Grand Prix goes green at\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_970260787\"><span class=\"aQJ\">12:40 PM ET<\/span><\/span>\u00a0on Saturday\u00a0with LIVE coverage on FS2 at\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_970260788\"><span class=\"aQJ\">12:30 PM ET<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Detroit, Mich.
