ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (8 August 2021)<\/strong> \u2013Despite an all-out, and all-night, effort by the team to get the No. 71 Urban Grid Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R ready for the race, Rebel Rock Racing elected to withdraw from Saturday\u2019s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race at Road America.<\/p>\n

Rebel Rock brought the team\u2019s former lead car, a repaired Camaro that was damaged in an incident in practice for the 2020 race at Mid-Ohio. However, that car struggled through practice at Road America with drivetrain issues on Friday.<\/p>\n

When the team worked to correct those problems, it discovered additional issues with the chassis. Identifying what needed to be done to have the car race-ready, the Florida-based team worked through the night to have the car prepared for the Saturday morning 15-minute qualifying session.<\/p>\n

Liddell duly took to the track for the session and despite focusing on getting a feel for the car, posted a qualifying time that sat them just outside of the top-ten with a lap of 2:19.128-seconds. But the feedback that Liddell generated moved the team to make the difficult decision to sit out the event that the team won in 2019, and focus on the next IMSA outing in September.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a combination of excessive driveline vibration and some chassis cracking that we felt could \u00a0potentially cause a failure at some point in the race,\u201d Liddell said. \u201cIt just was not worth the risk to race today. \u201cWe gave it our maximum effort. But in the end, it\u2019s just beyond the scope of what we could achieve at the track. \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is really frustrating not to get the chance to race, but I can\u2019t describe how proud I am of the team effort this weekend,\u201d said Frank Depew. \u201cWe did everything we could within our control to be ready for this race. As unfortunate as this is, it was the right decision and we will look ahead to Laguna Seca.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next race for the Michelin Pilot Challenge will be at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., on Saturday, Sept. 11.<\/p>\n
