First visit back to the track since 1994<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Madison, Wisc. (9 August 2017) \u2013\u00a0It\u2019s not often that veteran sports car team Kelly-Moss Road and Race arrives to a new track. With over 700 race starts and numerous championships to the Madison,\u00a0Wisconsin-based organization\u2019s credit, the squad is well-versed at almost all of the tracks the IMSA series visits.<\/p>\n

But as the IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda\u00a0makes its second trip north of the border this weekend for the Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres, the street circuit will feel almost like new to Kelly-Moss Road and Race.<\/p>\n

The team last raced there nearly 25 years ago in 1994 with drivers Price Cobb and Mauro Baldi \u2013 and they won. In fact, KMR driver Colin Thompson, who pilots the No. 14 Ignite \/ Mattoni Water \/ Edoardo Borrelli \/ Ernst\u00a0Kelly-Moss\u00a0Road and Race Benz \/ Sherwin Williams \/ Replay XD Norma M30 entry, was only an infant at that time.<\/p>\n

Leading the championship standings by 23 points, Thompson has delivered a streak of podium finishes\u00a0for KMR over the course of the 2017 season. His victory in the previous IMSA event of Lime Rock Park not only saw him add another win to his tally but it was also his sixth consecutive podium finish.<\/p>\n

While Thompson\u2019s already visited most of the circuits on the IMSA calendar, the 23-year old racer has a new one to add to his resume this weekend at the 1.52-mile, 10-turn street circuit located in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited about the weekend,\u201d said Thompson. \u201cIt\u2019ll be a little more challenging for me because I have never raced at this circuit before and it\u2019s been quite a while since Kelly-Moss has raced there as well. But we have the best in the business preparing the car and I think we\u2019ll get up to speed quickly. No matter the track, our focus is to win races and championships so our approach is no different heading into this weekend\u2019s event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though it\u2019s been over 20 years since Team Owner Jeff Stone\u2019s most recent visit to the track, it\u2019s almost as if no time has passed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe raced at Trois-Rivieres a few times between 1987 and 1994,\u201d said Stone. \u201cWe raced there with Price Cobb and Mauro Baldi in \u201994 – Mauro won and Price came in third \u2013 he had a gearbox problem and ran\u00a0the entire race in only one gear. We have lots of memories at the track. Even though it\u2019s been awhile since we were last here, when I pulled in and drove around the circuit today it was exactly how I remembered it. It is a pretty challenging track for a Prototype. It\u2019s become rougher over the years and it wasn\u2019t too smooth to start with! The objective of the game is to stay clean and let the race come to you because frankly it\u2019s not a place where you want to fight it out. I think we have a good shot at it – we have a good car and Colin (Thompson) is on his game.\u201d<\/p>\n

A compact weekend schedule sees the IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda practice on Friday, qualify Saturday, and run both races of the double-header on Sunday.
