{"id":6122,"date":"2023-06-24T08:11:06","date_gmt":"2023-06-24T12:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/?p=6122"},"modified":"2023-06-27T14:37:50","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T18:37:50","slug":"winning-weekend-for-racing-to-end-alzheimers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/24\/winning-weekend-for-racing-to-end-alzheimers\/","title":{"rendered":"Winning Weekend for Racing to End Alzheimer\u2019s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Kvamme ends first half of season with victory, two podiums<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WATKINS GLEN, NY (24 June 2023) \u2013 Racing to End Alzheimer\u2019s driver Mark Kvamme maintained his drive for a second-consecutive Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America championship with a strong weekend at Watkins Glen International \u2013 winning a race among a pair of podium finishes.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the No. 43 MDK Motorsports Racing Against Alzheimer\u2019s \/ Drive Capital \/ Avery\u2019s Trail Porsche ended the first half of the season with his sixth triumph of the campaign, having raced to his eighth podium in eight races.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m so happy to get this for Phil (Frengs, Racing to End Alzheimer&#8217;s founder),&#8221; said Kvamme. &#8220;I always want to represent the program well. We&#8217;re so appreciative to everyone who has joined this effort, with all the names on the car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignleft\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/OXgoqFdKNQiXfr9v245R4MbyVFov90Kicw0DDTreIUG64bJ4LkO0HX9cqkyu5s6iM_tBj37BJGQC_KWWdbYGoYin93gvEF-dkaGUCMhGME9lUSINk5rPkTsATSJChMaEH99F6_2xY1DrqVtGs7pm2s2MHZy_jjw=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/feb0df89-c5a9-1efe-420b-704296b856dd.jpeg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" align=\"left\" data-bit=\"iit\" \/>Kvamme had to come from the back of the pack to finish third in the opening race. That ended a five-race winning streak but kept his streak intact with his seventh podium. Set for a good start, his qualifying time was disallowed due to a ride-height violation that sent him to the back of the 35-car field, seventh in the Am class, for the opening 40-minute race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going to be P-1, but I missed due to a ride-height issue \u2013 by only one millimeter,\u201d he said. \u201cThat put me to the very back of the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He got a good jump at the start, only to be bumped off and spun. From that point, he worked his way forward. He took fifth in class with 20 minutes remaining, and fourth with 16:45 left \u2013 but six seconds behind the third-place car. Kvamme charged to take third with 9:10 to go. He held that position, taking 26<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0overall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got a good start, and I passed four or five guys,\u201d Kvamme explained. \u201cThen I got turned around in Turn 9, and I was at the back of the pack \u2013 they told me I was 29 seconds behind. Then I had to run my rear end off. That was pretty exciting. I always want to represent the Racing Against Alzheimer\u2019s guys, so I did it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignright\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/KIckTY9X0VEcTcg7eB-kBfn8GML0II1B6t06HUqOVYNC06ms7mvKxrl2dX74vD8QjxOPF6LLBSmQDpBOfEjgLHJ1H7Qbd0AxsH_wyeSYEm6PuG7n-9wDf0OuSk9e3R3tw2xG75BHsNPwHURTHYppDIQQD-l0bQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/2a58be57-f315-3a9b-9bef-4b95de3ab586.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" data-bit=\"iit\" \/>Kvamme quickly went to the front in the Sunday event \u2013 and stayed there despite steady pressure until a full-course caution for a rain and an incident brought a premature end to the racing with 11:50 remaining.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started second, and I got a good drive around the end, and then I got lucky,\u201d Kvamme said. \u201cThen the rain came in, and it was crazy. It was raining, and I did not see it. I almost lost it in Turn 6. But we won, and I\u2019m so happy for everyone who helped us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second half of the Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America gets underway at another historic venue, with races nine and 10 at Road America on July 28-29.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Racing to End Alzheimer&#8217;s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2013, Phil Frengs\u2019 wife Mimi was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer\u2019s Disease.
