But for Kvamme, the most important part of the season is the chance to make a difference in the fight to end Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI\u2019ve been fortunate to be able to use the car to help fund research to end Alzheimer\u2019s,\u201d said Kvamme. \u201cOur goal is to raise $250,000 this year. I\u2019m honored to have put the names of friends, parents, and other loved ones on the car and to help raise awareness and funds for care and research. We have to end this horrible disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The No. 43 Porsche gives families the chance to honor loved ones who have suffered from Alzheimer\u2019s disease or other forms of dementia. For a <a href=\"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c&amp;id=cdc96fc221&amp;e=99876ef132\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/sundaymanagement.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Da33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c%26id%3Dcdc96fc221%26e%3D99876ef132&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1694543408798000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2TtokUWwnUGIV_zW7gke4X\">$250 donation<\/a>, the family member\u2019s name and hometown is placed on the car, and their photo can be posted on the R2EndAlz website\u2019s tribute page. All donations are matched, with 100% going to the Nantz National Alzheimer\u2019s Center at Houston Methodist Hospital and the UCLA Alzheimer\u2019s and Dementia Care Program.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">To date, Racing to End Alzheimer\u2019s has donated nearly $8<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T alignright\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci5.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/EhJCkYeXQyHiIbSFojCk2nHTeMK9bkxRrPDJOcd3HXfPpuPalkDnvd03j7SLXct9YxRcaMqIFU0XBXy6uUn7U2tXtzRYV8Os26eHnB4XNjHOde4niM19sM3zmk_6GFtmQQSHP0ioG5EZIePvCtuxqenata8JXQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/a33ba08d163385b4a77fabf6c\/images\/a7e90f7e-28f6-b622-7551-27604d8c3771.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" align=\"right\" data-bit=\"iit\" \/>00,000 to those two programs, along with Alzheimer\u2019s organizations near the team\u2019s races in Toronto and Quebec.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Phil Frengs began the Racing to End Alzheimer\u2019s program to make a difference for other people going through the same difficulties that he has for the past 10 years, since his wife Mimi was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer\u2019s. From being the designated \u201cchief hugger\u201d as fans come to share their own stories of love and loss to being the main conduit of Alzheimer\u2019s information, Frengs feels that his involvement with the Porsche series has made a difference in so many lives.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis gives me some purpose,\u201d said Frengs. \u201cWatching someone go through this disease, the two things that come to mind are how helpless you feel and how hopeless you feel. So, I feel this is my calling and my opportunity to do something, to help families honor affected loved ones in a uniquely joyful and memorable way.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe battle against Alzheimer\u2019s is engaged on many fronts,\u201d continued Frengs. \u201cIt is our honor and privilege to contribute to that effort in the best way we know how: by racing our hearts out to help fund leading Alzheimer\u2019s treatment, services and research, and by paying loving tribute to those whose lives have been impacted by this insidious disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The famed Brickyard is the latest in a series of legendary racetracks at which the team has competed this year \u2013 some that are new to the series, including the Miami Grand Prix and Circuit of the Americas, to go with Watkins Glen, Road America and Sebring. Their experience with the disease led Frengs to a seminal moment: his company, Legistics, had long sponsored a team in IMSA sports car racing and he realized an opportunity to raise money and awareness for the fight against the disease.
