(<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1377438130\"><span class=\"aQJ\">11 October 2017<\/span><\/span>) \u2013 With the season-finale of the 2017 Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the stage is set for the most thrilling competition of the year yet. Having visited seven classic circuits across the country, Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the second time this season with its largest field to date of 38 Porsche entries.<\/p>\n<p>A remarkable 24 different drivers have won throughout the first 14 races of the season across the five different Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA class categories. The Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA double-header, which is run in conjunction with the International GT Challenge endurance event, features three different Porsche GT3 Cup car Classes: The Diamond Class (991 GT3 Cup \u2013 2014-2016), the Platinum Class (997.2 GT3 Cup \u2013 2010-2013), and the Silver Class (Cayman GT4 Cup \u2013 2016-2017). I was able to finish third\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1377438131\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Saturday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0with very competitive times and won the race\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1377438132\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Sunday<\/span><\/span>. We have a great setup for the car and we should able to fine tune the setup and improve on the last outing. I am entering the weekend with a 42 point lead over second place so I need to make sure I keep my nose clean in both races to win the championship, but I am facing some stiff competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russell Ward (No. 35\u00a0WinWard Racing Porsche 991 GT3 Cup), who missed the COTA and Road America rounds because of the flooding in Texas after Hurricane Harvey, returns to competition and sits fourth in the standings. He recently competed at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge event and finished sixth while driving a Porsche.<\/p>\n<p>Russell\u2019s father, Bryce (No. 57\u00a0WinWard Racing Porsche 991 GT3 Cup), who was also forced to miss the COTA and Road America rounds because of the flooding, remains at the top of the Diamond Masters championship standings heading into the final event of the year. The championship is wide open with Michael (Zuieback), Mike (McAlister), Dave (Elsner) and myself all in with a chance to win it. I hope to be right back on the pace as these guys have been really fast at the last two events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The championship battle is a tight one in the Diamond Masters division with second through fourth separated by only 10 points.<\/p>\n<p>In the Platinum class, it\u2019s been a race between teammates for most of the year with TruSpeed Autosport drivers all at the top of the charts.
