Having alternated between Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (then called Mosport) and Circuit Mont-Tremblant in its early years, the race made the 2.709-mile (4.36 km) road course its home when the circuit – located in the Parc Jean-Drapeau on Notre Dame Island in Montreal – was built.

The team continues its quest for that elusive first series win, having lost out on a likely victory four weeks ago in Miami when Sedgwick was penalized for changing position at the start – despite team video that showed he had in fact not moved. Putting that frustration behind him, Sedgwick looks ahead to one of the world’s most unique racetracks.

“I grew up watching F1 races from Montreal, since none of the other North American F1 tracks existed at the time,” said Sedgwick. “There’s so much history. And it’s such a unique track – it seems like a permanent road course that’s dressed like a street circuit. There is very little runoff, and high-speed, high-commitment corners with very little margin for error. I’m excited, I think it’s somewhere we can do well, since there will be very little time to get your head around it. It will be about feeling it out and being ready to send it, and that’s one of my strong points. I think the only driver in the field who has raced here is my teammate, Zachary Vanier. So clean slate – it will be about who can learn the fastest.”

For team principal Jason Myers, the outcome of the Miami weekend still rankles, but knowing that Sedgwick has pace gives the team confidence going into another street race.

“Moving onward from our rather unfortunate weekend at Miami, where Alex was fast across every session, including both races, we’re looking forward to another great F1 support weekend,” said Myers. “Montreal is a special place and I know Alex is very happy with the car that JDX is giving us. Now we’ve just got to put it all together, and I have faith in Alex to do just that. I cannot wait to see where else his career takes him after this season.”

2023 Aspiring Driver Shootout winner scores first SCCA victory

Quakertown, Penn.’s Brenna Schubert earned her first victory in a race car two weeks ago, at an SCCA event at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Competing in an SMX class SPEC MX-5, Schubert earned pole position but chose to start from the back of the field in order to gain more experience – and powered up through the field to take the win. Also competing in the STL class, Schubert qualified fourth and finished third.

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America series will contest two races at the Canadian Grand Prix.
