Braselton, Ga. (2 October 2017) \u2013 After seven rounds of IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama racing and six rounds of IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda racing, the 2017 season is\u00a0racing to a close this weekend as\u00a0the Kelly-Moss Road and Race (KMR) stable heads to Road Atlanta.<\/p>\n

Kelly-Moss Road and Race is bringing\u00a0another strong driver line up of four\u00a0IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge drivers to the final event of the season. Jake Edison, who clinched the Platinum class championship in the previous event at Sonoma Raceway, enters the weekend looking for victories with the championship pressure now off.<\/p>\n

Eidson will be fresh off of a two-day test at the Lautsitzring in Germany for the Porsche Motorsport Junior Program. Eidson, who was the sole American\u00a0nominee, battled against nine other international candidates with the goal of winning a scholarship for a Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really looking forward to going back to Road Atlanta,\u201d said\u00a0IMSA\u00a0Championship winner Eidson. \u201cThe nice thing about going to Road Atlanta is that there is no pressure and we can kind of just go for it. We will obviously be aiming for two more wins, but it makes the weekend a little bit easier knowing that I don\u2019t need to win to get the championship.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eidson will be joined by KMR teammate, Greg Palmer, driver of the No. 44 Copps Industries Gold class entry. Palmer has shown growth throughout his rookie season which built up to a top five result in Round 6 at VIRginia\u00a0International Raceway. Palmer is hoping to close out the season on a high note.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been looking forward to driving at this track all year,\u201d said Palmer. \u201cThe track is visually intimidating the first time you see it and after driving it a few laps it seems almost reasonable, but then when it\u2019s time to push the car for a lap time you start to question your sanity! My IMSA GT3 Cup rookie year has been overwhelming and exactly as I had hoped \u2013 I describe it as trying to drink from a fire hose.\u00a0I can\u2019t wait for next season to start because now I know the tracks a little better and how to raise my level of driving intensity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The familiar face of David Ducote will be back racing in the Gold category for\u00a0KMR in the No. 6 Porsche 911 GT3\u00a0in hopes of building on his noteworthy season debut at Circuit of the Americas in May. Ducote came out of the gate strong, producing a win and second place finish after securing the pole in Round 3 of IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge racing.<\/p>\n

Joining the the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA drivers at Road Atlanta will be IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda driver, Colin Thompson as he sets his focus on winning the championship title. Thompson hopes to score a breakthrough championship victory for the No. 14 Ignite \/ Mattoni\u00a0Water \/ Edoardo Borrelli \/ Ernst Benz \/ Sherwin Williams \/ Replay XD Norma M30.<\/p>\n

This year marks the first season for the Norma chassis, and Thompson has earned it two wins and seven podiums in its debut year.\u00a0\u201cOur main focus this weekend is all about the championship,\u201d\u00a0\"_CGP0355\"<\/a>said Thompson.\u00a0\u201cAll we have to do to lock this down is make no mistakes and finish both races and score points. We have worked hard this year to put us in this position and we need to just keep doing what we\u2019re doing to lock in my third championship with KMR! Through all of the challenges of having the first car of its kind, KMR has absolutely nailed it all season long and allowed me to do my job and get results!\u201d<\/p>\n

Thompson enters the final race weekend in the championship lead with 18 points over second place, Kenton Koch. Thompson is confident in the performance of his No. 14 Norma machine as it will be a fight to the finish.<\/p>\n
