Double-podium weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for Colin Thompson<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Bowmanville, Ontario (9 July 2017) \u2013 After a team effort that stretched from Central Ontario to Indianapolis, Kelly-Moss Road and Race (KMR) moved into the IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda championship points lead as Colin Thompson scored two second place finishes at Canadian Tire\u00a0Motorsport Park.<\/p>\n

Entering the race weekend north of the border fresh from a breakthrough run to victory last weekend at Watkins Glen for Thompson in the No. 14 Ignite \/ Mattoni Water \/ Edoardo Borrelli \/ Ernst\u00a0Kelly-Moss\u00a0Road and Race Benz \/ Sherwin Williams \/ Replay XD\u00a0Norma M30, KMR was looking to convert his consistent finishes into a boost in the championship standings.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the weekend plan was thrown out the window following an off-course excursion that saw\u00a0Thompson suffer extensive damage to the Norma M30. With a sparse spares inventory on hand at CTMP, the team quickly realized that the needed parts were in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, KMR was also competing in PCA Club Racing action in the Indianapolis with an event at Putnam Park.<\/p>\n

The crew scrambled from that event to secure the parts needed, and headed north towards Toronto\u00a0on Friday\u00a0night. At the same time, Alex Stone (KMR Assistant Competition Director) and John Thompson, Colin\u2019s father, headed south to meet the truck and pick up the parts in a late night exchange in Toledo, Ohio.<\/p>\n

Driving through the night to get back to the track with the needed parts, Stone and Thompson brought what the Norma needed and the KMR crew had the car ready to go in time for qualifying\u00a0on\u00a0Saturday\u00a0morning.<\/p>\n

\u201dThis weekend was a really solid points weekend,\u201d said Thompson. \u201cKenton (Koch) was so strong this weekend but we kept pushing as hard as we could. The whole Kelly-Moss crew went above and beyond once again, the whole weekend to make sure we were on track every season and performing to the best of the car\u2019s ability. That second race, we had pace but traffic didn\u2019t play our way and we got a little unlucky.\u201d<\/p>\n

That effort saw Thompson score front row starting spots for both\u00a0races, which he duly converted into two runner-up finishes to move into the lead of the championship with seven races yet to run.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew going into this weekend that we wanted to focus on taking the lead in the championship and we were able to do that,\u201d said Thompson. \u201cSo it is a good position to be in and we will just focus on getting the most that we can out of the next three weekends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a really good weekend, although it felt like a very long one!\u201d said team owner Jeff Stone with a laugh. \u201cWe are just thankful to be where we are. Colin (Thompson) drove great \u2013 we had an issue in the second half of the last race but he was able to bring it home okay. We will get it sorted out and will come back to it at Lime Rock Park!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
