Last year, Sedgwick scored a podium and a fourth-place finish to secure fourth in points in his rookie Carrera Cup season.

Last month, COTA joined the ranks of the newly repaved, which has resulted in an even faster, smoother racing surface. Solid pace in a recent test on COTA’s tricky 20-turn, 3.426-mile road course has Sedgwick feeling confident behind the wheel of the No. 98 PT Autosport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car as he looks to secure second position in the series points chase.

“Honestly, it was one of the best tests we’ve had,” said Sedgwick. “We started well straightaway. It probably helped that I was there earlier in the year with (JDX Racing teammate) Eric Lapp for the USAC Endurance Challenge opener. Even though it wasn’t my car specifically, a good deal of it was the same so we had a bit of a head start. That meant that we started well and didn’t have to make too many crazy changes. It was more a matter of figuring out parts of the track that have been resurfaced, to see if they required a different driving input – so the test was more about just driving and working on the “on the fly” changes that I can do inside the car rather than overall set up. This surface seems almost slicker than it was, the tire can’t bite into it as much. It’s still quite dark and absorbs a good amount of heat, so that will be interesting if it’s really hot.”

Sedgwick had given up on his racing career when he met the founders of PT Autosport two years ago, so to find himself second in points – and aiming straight at an IMSA or WEC ride – has the 25-year-old Warwickshire, UK native quite grateful.

“We have one more shot for a good weekend remaining in Carrera Cup, to finish on a high note,” said Sedgwick. “It’s been an awesome journey, and I’ve learned so much, thanks to the support and guidance from both JDX and PT Autosport. I really want to repay them for my opportunity in this series with two strong results, and underline what I am capable of as we look to graduate for the 2025 season.”

PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers appreciates the lessons learned over the past two years in Carrera Cup, and while the priority is to finish strong this weekend, he knows that a great deal lies ahead, both for the team and for Sedgwick.

“We’ve learned a great deal in our time in Carrera Cup,” said Myers. “Huge thanks to Jeremy Dale, Harrison Brix, our Engineer Ryan Neff and Car Chief Cody Wollenslegal, and the entire team at JDX Racing. They’ve been great partners as we dip our toes in this series and gave Alex a great competitive platform. We want to finish this weekend on a high note, hopefully adding to Alex’s win count in the series and securing second place in the point standings. But we’re looking forward to going even bigger in 2025. Alex came into the series last year having never driven this car or these tracks in his life, which shows just how much of a natural talent he really is. Teams and manufacturers have noticed, and it’s going to be a very interesting off-season with interest from the SRO, IMSA, and WEC paddocks.”

PT Autosport would like to thank partners STEAM Sports Foundation, Classic Car Club Manhattan and New Jersey Motorsports Park, as well as JDX Racing partners Byers/Porsche Columbus, and Renier Construction.

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America series will contest two races at COTA.
