Detroit, Mich.\u00a0(28 May\u00a02025)\u00a0\u2013 The trucks drive north to Detroit as Acura Meyer Shank Racing (\u201c<\/span>Acura MSR\u201d) prepares for Round 5 of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In only the second year of the new 1.654-mile, nine-turn downtown street circuit, Acura MSR takes on the new Detroit Grand Prix\u00a0course\u00a0for the first time in IMSA competition\u00a0(Saturday, 3:30pm ET, Peacock, SiriusXM Ch. 206).<\/p>\n

In the No. 93 Acura ARX-06, drivers\u00a0Renger van der Zande\u00a0and\u00a0Nick Yelloly both raced on the new circuit last year, with van der Zande getting a podium finish. In fact, the Dutch racer has an impressive four wins in the Motor City, albeit on the previous Belle Isle layout.<\/p>\n

But drivers of the No. 60, Tom Blomqvist\u00a0and\u00a0Colin Braun, will tackle the track for the first time. Both wheelmen are eager to erase the bad luck from unfortunate pit incidents in Sebring and Laguna.<\/p>\n

In the Belle Isle iteration of the Detroit event, MSR has seen success with two wins in the GTD class, one of which (2017) was the first victory for the then all-new Acura NSX GT3. The team also scored it’s first-ever IMSA\u00a01-2 finish in 2018. Last year, Acura took the maiden GTP win on the downtown track.<\/p>\n

After Long Beach, the Detroit Grand Prix\u00a0marks the second of two 100-minute sprint races and second street course race of the year.\u00a0Saturday\u2019s race is part of a doubleheader weekend with the NTT INDYCAR Series. Fresh off the Indianapolis 500 weekend, MSR will compete with their two full-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES entrants, Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Armstrong.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s IMSA feature\u00a0has a green flag scheduled for\u00a03:40 PM ET. Fans can watch flag-to-flag coverage on Peacock beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET, as well as\u00a0IMSA TV Live<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0IMSA YouTube<\/a>\u00a0outside the U.S. The live Qualifying Stream will air on Peacock Friday at 4:50 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

Last year was the first time going through the city on this street track, which is really fun. I got a decent P3 result, but I remember the Acura seemed quite fast as I was driving behind it. Of course, I am happy to be in the Acura this year and see what we can do. We\u2019ve had lot of preparation again from the team and I think we will be more competitive than we\u2019ve been the last couple of races. Bring it on!”<\/p>\n

Tom Blomqvist: “<\/strong>Been a tough few events for us recently. So, it\u2019s been nice to re-set, look\u00a0ahead to this weekend and be\u00a0fairly confident we can get a good result. It\u2019s a new track for me and Colin, but the car won in Detroit last year, so we have a good base to work from.
