Despite Mimi’s passing last month after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s, Frengs continues his work at the racetrack – meeting with fans and other members of the Michelin Pilot Challenge, talking about his journey and hearing about the impact Alzheimer’s has had on so many other families. The No. 19 Ford Mustang carries the names of nearly 80 loved ones who have suffered from Alzheimer’s or dementia, honoring their memories (add the name of your loved one to the No. 19 Ford Mustang.)

“Ohio is my second home, so it’s always great to be here,” said Frengs. “This is beautiful country, and then here’s this surprising track that just pops out of the countryside. We had so many people coming by to talk to us, so I spent pretty much the whole weekend chatting with folks who have been affected by Alzheimer’s – as has my family. It’s a wonderful opportunity to just hear their stories and to tell my story. That’s what we do.”

Mid-Ohio’s undulating and technical 14-turn, 2.258-mile layout makes it notoriously difficult to set up a car, with teams knowing they need to fit into a very small window to find the perfect balance of speed and cornering ability.

Through two practice sessions, Quinlan and Liefooghe focused on finding that balance, with Liefooghe running the early part of the one-hour first practice on Friday and pacing as high as sixth. Quinlan took the wheel for the early going in Saturday morning’s session, battling a “chattering” push that plagued much of the field as the tires searched for grip on a track surface that had been completely repaved in 2024. On Saturday afternoon, Quinlan qualified the No. 19 Mustang in 16th position for Sunday’s main event.

After torrential rains Sunday morning, (relatively) dry conditions greeted the drivers for the race start. Quinlan took the green on row eight and held his position in the quickly drying conditions, coming into pit lane near the one-hour mark for four tires, fuel and a change to Liefooghe.

Liefooghe immediately set about carving his way through the field, putting the Ford Mustang into the top 10 in just a few laps. Through several caution periods and two more pit stops for fuel and tires, Liefooghe made smart passes and captured eighth position with 90 minutes remaining. Pitting for fuel and tires with just under an hour remaining, Liefooghe came back in 12th position and battled back, taking the checkered flag in ninth position.

Frengs was happy with the effort, through the rapidly evolving conditions.

“It was a tough weekend, with the weather constantly changing,” said Frengs. “We went to the grid with rain tires on the car but we started the race on slick tires, so it was all about watching the radar. This was only the second four-hour race of the year and it was an outstanding effort by the entire team. Fantastic pit stops by the team, good strategy on the pit stand, and an ace effort from Sean and Greg.”

Next up for the Racing to End Alzheimer’s with Stephen Cameron Racing team and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series will be the LP Building Solutions 120 – part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen weekend at Watkins Glen International.
