American driver Hardwick leads LMGT3 championship as WEC campaign hits summer stride<\/em><\/p>\n

8 July, 2025– Two drivers are likely to receive more attention than most in this weekend\u2019s Rolex 6 Hours of S\u00e3o Paulo (12-13 July), as Augusto Farfus and Eduardo Barrichello prepare to do battle on home soil in the FIA World Endurance Championship \u2013 with both targeting a champagne celebration.<\/p>\n

Hailing from Curitiba in the south of Brazil, The Bend Team WRT\u2019s Farfus has endured a frustrating run since reaching the rostrum in the 2025 curtain-raising contest in Qatar in February, failing to trouble the scorers in any of the subsequent three races alongside team-mates Timur Boguslavskiy and Yasser Shahin.<\/p>\n

After lining up sixth on the grid at Interlagos last summer, the #31 BMW M4 LMGT3 could ultimately finish no better than tenth, three laps behind the class-winner. Farfus is hopeful of a significantly stronger performance 12 months on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so pleased to be going back to Interlagos to race in front of my home crowd,\u201d enthused the long-time BMW M works driver. \u201cCompeting in my home country is incredible. I don\u2019t race in Brazil very often, so having all the fans watching and cheering for me means a lot and I know the organisational team has put in a massive effort to produce another great event.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, we had a very difficult S\u00e3o Paulo, so we clearly need to improve upon that. I think we know what did not go well, though, and this year, with the new asphalt that has been laid down and the EVO package on the car, I\u2019m confident we can put on a better show and walk away with a smile on our face. Let\u2019s try to turn things around for the rest of the year!\u201d<\/p>\n

Compared to seasoned veteran Farfus, countryman Barrichello is in the infancy of his career, having only made his FIA WEC debut in 2025 following a successful stint in Brazil\u2019s Stock Car Pro Series.<\/p>\n

Despite his limited experience on the international stage, the son of two-time Formula 1 World Championship runner-up Rubens Barrichello has impressed in Racing Spirit of L\u00e9man\u2019s Aston Martin Vantage AMR LMGT3 \u2013 and he is bidding to do so again this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cRacing at home is going to be super-special,\u201d acknowledged the 23-year-old, who was born in S\u00e3o Paulo and is affectionately nicknamed \u2018Dudu\u2019 within the paddock. \u201cI\u2019ll have my family here, my girlfriend and my friends \u2013 and, of course, the Brazilian crowd. I\u2019ll be able to sleep in my own bed, too!<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be 100 per cent focused, just like every other race week, but this time, I already know the track quite well. I can\u2019t wait to get started and drive the Aston Martin at Interlagos \u2013 that\u2019s super-cool and something I could never have dreamt of. I\u2019m super-excited!\u201d<\/p>\n

The visit to Brazil will also see two American racers look to continue their strong FIA WEC championship campaigns, as Ryan Hardwick holds the LMGT3 points lead along with his co-drivers Riccardo Perra and Richard Lietz in the No. 92 Porsche entry, while Texan Ben Keating currently sits third in the standings with his co-drivers Danial Juncadella and Johnny Edgar in the No. 33 Corvette.<\/p>\n

Hardwick arrives in Brazil carrying the momentum of his Le Mans victory, while Keating will look to win once again having captured the opening race of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

“My main goal is to win the championship, and we are still in that hunt for sure,\u201d said Keating. \u201cFor the last several races, we’ve been carrying around so much success ballast. I’m glad to know that the two people in front of us in the championship are now going to be very heavy. And we’re going to be considerably lighter. I’ve never been to S\u0101o Paulo. But I’ve spent a lot of time on my simulator and learning it. So I’m looking forward to being back toward the front.”<\/p>\n
