(24 May 2018) \u2013 After a near podium finish during the Indianapolis Grand Prix weekend earlier this month, Darren Keane will return to Cooper Tires USF200 powered by Mazda competition as he heads into his first oval outing for the Freedom 75 at Lucas Oil Raceway.<\/p>\n<p>Keane has shown a tremendous amount of growth in only his second year of USF2000 competition, scoring a big podium finish at the 2018 season opener in St. Petersburg and coming just shy of a second podium finish earlier this month at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-932 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37-220x146.jpg 220w, https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37-113x75.jpg 113w, https:\/\/sundaymanagement.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/unnamed-37-752x500.jpg 752w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width:767px) 300px, 300px\" \/>Keane will now be looking to move to the front in his first oval outing in his No. 36 Newman Wachs machine at Lucas Oil Raceway\u00a0this Friday\u00a0as part of the Mazda Road to Indy \u201cFreedom\u00a0Friday\u201d events.<\/p>\n<p>A quick turn around from his last race in Indianapolis just three weeks prior, will bring Keane back to the Racing Capital of the World with his Newman Wachs Racing squad.<\/p>\n<p>Keane\u2019s quick ability to learn will be an asset heading into the 0.686-mile oval \u2013 also the only oval outing for the 2018 USF2000 season. Looking forward to everything the short oval has to offer, Keane is keen to get the weekend started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLucas Oil will be interesting since I have never driven on an oval before, but I\u2019m not too worried,\u201d explained Keane. \u201cI think the passing will be the most difficult part because you have to find racing room but I think I\u2019ll be comfortable with that. I really enjoyed the street races that we had, which I had never driven on before, so that gives me confidence about racing on the oval. It will be a step by step process but I\u2019m really looking forward to that first on track session.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Freedom\u00a0Friday\u00a0events will get underway with the first official practice session\u00a0on Thursday\u00a0afternoon and\u00a0Friday\u00a0will stage a morning qualifying run following by the Freedom 75 at\u00a06:05 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indianapolis, Ind.
