Richie Morris Racing Looks To Rebound In Tuesday’s Black Hills Half-Mile

AFT GNC Half Mile, Calistoga, CA 7-29-2017

Rapid City, S.D. (2017 August 8) – Richie Morris Racing (RMR) racing riders Shayna Texter and Jarod Vanderkooi will be looking to rebound from Sunday’s Buffalo Chip TT when they travel to nearby Black Hills Speedway for Tuesday’s Black Hills Half-Mile.

Looking to add to a season that has seen Texter show strength in AFT Singles competition, Sunday’s Buffalo Chip TT in Sturgis, S.D. didn’t make for the outing that she had been hoping for.

The TT event was held in conjunction with the 77th Sturgis Rally and the largest music festival in motorcycling, but didn’t feature Texter in the finals as she missed out on qualifying with the No. 52 RMR McElroy Packaging Honda CFR450R that also carries support from American Honda, Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda, Tucker Rocky, S&S Cycle
Performance Electronics, ProTaper and Roland Sands Design.

Texter,  a four-time winner in 2017 American Flat Track (AFT) Singles competition – still has six events remaining this year to add to her winning record this season.

“We had been training for the TT and was looking forward to putting that to good use at the Buffalo Chip, but it turned out to be a bit of a rough night,” said Texter, who went down at the start of her heat race. While she quickly recovered, the lost track position led to a 13th place finish. Starting the Last Chance Qualifier from the back of the field, she placed 14th and failed to advance.

“Now, I’m excited about the quick turnaround and I can’t wait to get back on track for the Black Hills Half-Mile,” she continued. “Last year I felt it was one of the best-prepped tracks we went to all season, and I’m hoping for the same this year. We’re looking for a good result there. I had a good run there the last time I ran there on a Single, but unfortunately the feature got rained out.”

Vanderkooi had a promising evening end well ahead of when he had been hoping in the AFT Twins when he had a cut tire in the main event after placing fourth in his heat and fifth in the semi, sidelining the No. 20 RMR 750 Twin that is sponsored by McElroy Packaging, Tucker Rocky, Roland Sands Design, ProTaper, S&S Cycle
and Performance Electronics.

“Rapid City is a nice, banked track, almost a half-mile,” said team principal Richie Morris. “It should be a pretty good track for us. All the tracks are different, but this one is pretty similar to Calistoga. I think Shayna’s got a pretty good chance to have a good run there, and we look for Jarod to get back running near the front.”

Following Tuesday’s event, the busiest week of the AFT season concludes with Sunday’s 71st annual Peoria TT, held at the Peoria Motorcycle Club on August 13.

Tuesday’s program begins at 2 p.m. MT (4 p.m. ET), with the 15-lap AFT Singles Main Event at 8:30 p.m. MT, and the 25-lap AFT Twins presented by Vance & Hines feature race at 9 p.m. MT. Live coverage of all on-track activity can be viewed on FansChoice.tv.
