Change Racing Scores Breakthrough IMSA WeatherTech Victory at VIRginia International Raceway

Alton, Virginia (27 August 2017) – Driving at the team’s home track with scores of family and friends on hand, Change Racing broke through for the organization’s first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship victory on Sunday when Jeroen Mul and Corey Lewis delivered a dominant performance at VIRginia International Raceway in Round 10 of the championship.

The No.16 Change Racing XBOX / Monster Energy / Orion Lighting Lamborghini Huracán GT3 not only scored the  pole position and led from the green flag to the checkered flag, but also topped the time charts in every single session of the weekend at the home track for Lamborghini Carolinas.

The team has shown great promise over the course of the 2017 IMSA season, but has also been on the receiving end of some bad racingluck. The stars finally aligned for Change Racing which led to a dramatic and well-deserved victory after leading all of the race’s 92 laps.

Mul opened the race and extended his winning margin lap after lap to ultimately put 15-seconds over the entire GTD class field.

The race ran at a furious pace and without a full course caution to slow the field, Change Racingworked to carry out the perfect strategy. Lewis strapped into the Lamborghini machine with 50 minutes remaining, but it wasn’t clear sailing for the Monster Energy Athlete. He defended masterfully in the closing laps to hold off the hard charging second place No. 96 BMW to take the victory,

“We really didn’t do anything differently, everything just finally came together,” said Team Principal Robby Benton. “The guys have shown that they have speed for two seasons now. Everything just kind of went our way. We led every session and led every lap. There is nothing else that the guys could have done differently. It was a pretty perfect weekend. We couldn’t have scripted it any better because all of our family and friends are here. We’re going to enjoy this!”

Change Racing will return for Round 11 of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on September 21-24.

IMSA WEATHERTECH DRIVER QUOTES:

Jeroen Mul: “We have been waiting for a success like this for so long and it took us 10 races to get here. This was our weekend and we hit a straight home run and won every single session. It was way too close for my liking at the end, but Corey (Lewis) did an awesome job bringing it home. Big thanks to ChangeRacing for preparing such an awesome race car and for the support by all of our partners – Lamborghini Carolinas, XBOX, Forza, and Orion Lighting.”

Corey Lewis: “We had an absolutely perfect weekend. Jeroen (Mul) had an amazing opening double stint and he handed the car off to me where we needed to be. I was able to hold off the BMW which was not an easy feat. This was our first victory as a team and the first win for myself which is such an awesome feeling. This is a home race for us and for Lamborghini Carolinas so it was a great victory for everyone. That last lap was not as easy as I thought it was going to be but I was able to hold him (No. 96 BMW) off. I just can’t thank the team enough for everything they have done for us this weekend.”

Change Racing was also in Lamborghini Super Trofeo action at VIR. The team added Andy Lally to its driver line up as Lally joined Richard Antinucci in the No. 16 Lamborghini. Lally and Antinucci closed out the weekend with a second-place finish in the Pro Class while the sister car driven by Bryce Miller, took two third place finishes in the ProAm class.
