Saturday’s pole position marks Hindman’s second career IMSA WeatherTech GTD Pole with Meyer Shank Racing
Watkins Glen, N.Y. (29 June 2019) – Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) driver Trent Hindman posted a 1:44.978-second lap to put the No. 86
AutoNation / Curb Records Acura NSX GT3 on the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen pole for Sunday’s endurance event.
Hindman has been on a roll since moving to a full time role with MSR in 2019, with Saturday’s pole result marking his second of the season (Sebring-March, 2019) as he continues to raise his game for the ultra competitive GTD class.
The Meyer Shank Racing crew worked hard all weekend long to lock in a solid set up as unpredictable weather greeted the team ahead of Saturday’s qualifying.
But after a rainy morning practice, it was bright blue skies and sun that brought out the best in the Acura for Hindman to set his fastest time on Lap 6. The time edged his fellow MSR pilot Christina Nielsen, who will start second as MSR looks to continue its strong run of results at the upstate New York track.
“I was pushing hard during those qualifying laps.” said Hindman “I was pushing everything the Acura NSX GT3 had. We had a lot of unknowns after practice this morning due to the weather. We even made some gambles on the car set up last night which we wanted to try out but didn’t have the opportunity to before qualifying. As always, the Meyer Shank Racing crew pulled through and gave me an amazing car. It is excellent to secure the 1-2 starting spots for this team. As competitive as the GTD category is, qualifying holds 100% importance. It will feel great to get the Acura out into clean air tomorrow for the race. I am beyond grateful to be a part of this crew and secure the pole position!”
“I am so incredibly proud of Trent,” said Mike Shank. “He has continued to impress me this season and you can really see his growth. It’s a long race tomorrow and we just need to play it smart, but securing the front row is a great start for us.”
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen will go green at 9:45am ET with a delayed NBCSN broadcast set for 7:00pm ET.
