Sixth-place Finish for Heinricher Racing in California

Monterey, Calif. (19 September 2019) – Heinricher Racing with Meyer Shank Racing drivers Katherine Legge and Christina Nielsen finished sixth at the Monterey SportsCar Championship after battling in the top five for most of the day.

A fully green-flag race saw two hours and 40 minutes of flat-out effort at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday. Starting seventh on the grid, Nielsen dodged heavy traffic during her opening stint, but maintained position before turning the car over to Legge on Lap 36.

By Lap 56, Legge had worked her way to fifth. A fast final stop by the pit crew on Lap 73 kept the Heinricher Racing No. 57 Caterpillar Acura in the top five for the last stint of the race. Legge continued to fight forward but ultimately crossed the finish line sixth after 121 laps of racing.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship heads to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for the season-finale Petit Le Mans on Oct. 12th.

Team Quotes:

Jackie Heinricher:

“We had a strong run at Laguna, maintaining a top five position, until a late pass pushed us to sixth. We expected more but earned another top 10 finish. We look forward to Petite LeMans.”

Katherine Legge:

“We definitely had a top-five car with great pace at the beginning of each stint. We fought forward with front tires that wore quickly. At the end of the day, we finished ahead of where we qualified so we will take that and move on to the season finale at Road Atlanta.”

Christina Nielsen:

“The start was a little bit of a surprise when they told us to pack up in the Corkscrew and we’re accelerating full throttle out of the corner! It was a hard day of racing as the front tires wore quickly. I have to give the team credit for all the hard work they’ve put in. We’ve had good performance in our race cars this year and great execution by the Heinricher Racing with Meyer Shank Racing crew. We head to one of my favorite tracks at the Petit Le Mans, so we’ll look forward to that.”
