Harvey to Make First INDYCAR Start At Iowa Speedway

Pataskala, Ohio (14 July 2020) – After completing a double-header NTT INDYCAR Series race weekend at Road America, Meyer Shank Racing and Jack Harvey will take the No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda straight to Iowa Speedway for a second consecutive high-intensity double-header event weekend. 

Moving from the Road America’s natural terrain road course to the ultra-quick Iowa oval, the Iowa IndyCar 250s will be on Friday (NBCSN, 8:30pm ET) and Saturday (NBCSN, 8:30pm ET) as Harvey makes his IndyCar Iowa Speedway debut. 

Coming off of the Road America race weekend that saw the Meyer Shank Racing squad display significant pace with Harvey, but fall short on the racing luck, Harvey is hoping that the odds will be in his favor this weekend. 

Harvey made his second consecutive appearance on the INDYCAR front row after qualifying second for Race 1 at Road America. Unfortunately a brake failure took him out of contention early on in the race. Harvey’s speed once again translated into Race 2 on Sunday, but unfortunately Lap 1, Turn 1 contact once again hindered his chances at a big result. 

The .875-mile Iowa tri-oval will be another addition to Harvey’s racing resume this year as he and Meyer Shank Racing continue their first full-season IndyCar campaign together. 

For Harvey, Iowa Speedway is one of the few ovals that he has previous competition experience to build on, having Harvey qualified third and finishing fifth in the 2015 Iowa Indy Lights event on his way to runner up in the Indy Lights championship. 

“Iowa is actually one of the few ovals that I have raced at in Indy Lights,” said Harvey. “I’ve always had good speed there so I’m hoping that we can translate that speed that I had in Indy Lights to speed in IndyCar. This year we’ve shown that we have the speed and the pace to run up front, but we’ve had the odds against us for some reason. Hopefully things will turn around at Iowa. It’s a great track, there’s always something happening and there’s no real moment where you get to breathe or relax.”

What is known as the “World’s Fastest Short Track,” Iowa will be another new challenge that Meyer Shank Racing is ready to take on.  The team has previous experience at the Iowa circuit in GRAND-AM competition, albeit the infield road course, having raced to a fifth (Ozz Negri & Mark Patterson) and ninth (Ian James & John Pew) place result in 2007. 

The pair of Iowa IndyCar 250s will start off on Friday with Practice, Qualifying (NBC Sports Gold App, 5:30pm ET) and Race 1 on NBCSN at starting a 8:30pm ET. Saturday will start with a second round of Qualifying (NBC Sports Gold App, 3:30pm ET) and Race 2 broadcast coverage beginning at 8:30pm ET on NBCSN.
