Pataskala, Ohio (27 July 2020) – With the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule back on track, Meyer Shank Racing drivers Mario Farnbacher and Matt McMurry head to Road America for the third round of racing action this Sunday (NBC, 12:00pm ET).
Fresh from a strong run to the Daytona podium, Farnbacher and McMurry head into the Road America race weekend with some much needed momentum after a nearly six month break from racing due to COVID-19. The third place finish for the No. 86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 was a nice recovery in the sprint race following a tough 10th place finish in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona in January.
Meyer Shank Racing has been competing at Road America since 2011 and has six top five finishes and two podiums in 2011 and 2014 with drivers Ozz Negri and John Pew.
The last two years at Road America, Farnbacher has scored a pair of seventh place finishes onboard the Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3. This weekend he is hoping to improve on those personal bests with a trip to the podium.
“Road America is one of my favorite tracks in North America,” said Farnbacher. “It was a difficult race for us last year, but it’s a new year and I think we have a strong car. We are going into the weekend with a strong mindset and to keep doing what we have been doing. The main target is to keep scoring points towards the championship.”
McMurry will be competing at Road America for the first time onboard a GT car, but the recent college graduate has had plenty of laps around the 4.0-mile circuit in Prototype competition. McMurry has scored two second place finishes in IMSA Prototype Lites in 2013 and 2014 and scored a fifth place finish in his most recent outing at Road America in the IMSA Prototype Challenge in 2016.
“Daytona was a good result for us and a great way to come back from the long break, but of course you’re never 100% satisfied until you get a win,” said McMurry. “Road America will be our chance to put our first win under our belts and make some progress up the championship rankings. I think we will have a strong car and Mario and I are going to give it everything.”
The trip to the fabled Wisconsin circuit is the second outing of the 2020 season for Meyer Shank Racing. The team posted a strong weekend of speed for its NTT INDYCAR program that saw driver Jack Harvey make his second consecutive front row start after claiming the outside pole with the No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda earlier this month.
