Early End at Mid-Ohio for Rebel Rock Racing

Mansfield, Ohio (25 Sept. 2020) – Racing can deliver intoxicating highs and on occasion, disappointing lows. In the space of two IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge events, Rebel Rock Racing experienced the full spectrum.

The team took a convincing victory at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta two weeks ago with the No. 71 Urban Grid Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R, but then suffered an event-ending crash at Mid-Ohio.

Rebel Rock Racing drivers Frank Depew and Robin Liddell were looking forward to the Mid-Ohio event weekend, which was slated as a double-header with two rounds of racing. In the opening practice session, Depew took to the track as the team looked to build towards a strong qualifying session on Saturday.

But the outing ended early as Depew suffered an off course excursion that saw the Camaro make significant contact with a concrete barrier. The team hustled to turn the car around to make repairs to be prepared for the next session, but the damage was too significant and the team was forced to withdraw from the event.

“Unfortunately the structure of the car was compromised in the accident this morning and this is simply not a repair that can be safely or effectively made at the racetrack, so we have no option other than to withdraw from the event,” said Liddell. “This is clearly very disappointing, but the main thing is Frank (Depew) is unhurt. We are a strong team and we will bounce back. Thanks to everyone for your continued interest and support.”

Up next, Rebel Rock Racing will look for a return to winning form next month when IMSA stages the Fox Factory 120 which is part of the Petit Le Mans event weekend on October 14-17 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
