Jr III Racing Ready for IMSA Prototype Challenge Season Finale at Road Atlanta

Braselton, Georgia (12 October 2020) – Jr III (“Junior Three”) Racing will close out the 2020 IMSA Prototype Challenge (IPC) season at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Friday, October 16th (9:10AM ET, TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold). Greg and Eric Palmer will share the No. 3 Copps Industries Ligier JSP3 for the final round of their first full season IPC effort.

The 2020 IMSA season in Prototype Challenge has been a year of growth for the Mooresville-based team. With a six-race calendar, the year kicked off with three back-to-back top ten finishes including a fifth place at Sebring International Raceway.

Returning to Road Atlanta, where the team scored a Bronze win in 2019, Jr III Racing’s inaugural IMSA season concludes with a three-hour enduro – the second endurance event of the year. The Palmers began the 2020 IPC season at Daytona capturing a tenth-place finish in the three-hour endurance race in their first outing in Prototype competition.

Greg Palmer returns to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta after making two race starts in 2017 in the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge. The elder Palmer will join his son Eric as the father-son pair will make their first IPC race start at the 2.54-mile circuit. A productive test at the Braselton, Georgia track earlier this month prepared the team to close out the season on the high.

“I am looking forward to our second endurance event at Road Atlanta,” said Eric Palmer. “The longer race format pushes us mentally and physically, so focusing and finding a rhythm in the car is an important key to a successful race. The steep elevation changes are very technical parts of the course, but they are also fun and suit our No. 3 Copps Industries Ligier well. Both my dad (Greg Palmer) and I want a good result not only for ourselves but for the team as well so that we can end our first season in the IMSA Prototype Challenge on a strong note.”

The Road Atlanta event weekend will mark the final IPC race for the current specification Ligier with 2021 welcoming an all new Ligier JS P320 that features an additional 30 horsepower, an adapted cooling system and improved aerodynamics. Jr III Racing will be the first team in North America to take delivery of the newest iteration of the Ligier LMP3, which is set to arrive at the team’s headquarters later this month.

Jr III Racing team owner Billy Glavin hopes to finish the season strong as he looks to the future in IMSA for the growing team.

“It is hard to believe that we are at the final race in our first season in IMSA already,” said Glavin. “The team has overcome all the obstacles this year has thrown at us while continuing to make fantastic progress on and off track. We have established our routine that allows efficient turnaround of the car which in turn lets us have more on-track time for our drivers.  Our biggest challenge this year was going to new tracks that our crew and our drivers have never been to before. Returning to the same tracks next year and knowing what to expect will allow the Palmers to solely focus on driving and utilizing the car to the fullest. Our goal each weekend was to make positive strides that help continue our growth as a team. We are on the right track to do that as we look forward to our future with IMSA.”

The Palmers will take the green flag in the No. 3 Copps Industries Ligier for the final IPC round of the season on Friday, October 16th at 9:10AM ET. Live flag-to-flag coverage is available on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.
