Podium Result for Irish Mike’s at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (12 August 2021) – Irish Mike’s Racing turned in its best IMSA weekend of the season at Road America, highlighted by a second-place finish for Conor Flynn in his debut weekend of IMSA Porsche Carrera Cup North America competition.

Flynn was sixth fourth across the finish line in Saturday’s opening race, but lost the result following a post race ride- heightinfraction. But he was able to go even better his next time out, capturing second place in the Pro-Am 991 class on board the No. 95 Irish Mike’s Racing Porsche 911.

Fellow Irish Mike Racing driver Craig Conway also had his best weekend for the team as the 16-race season reached its midway point, placing fourth Fifth in both events driving Irish Mike’s No. 97 Porsche 911.

“It was quite a weekend,” Flynn said. “It was my first weekend out with that car, and we didn’t

even have time to get it wrapped yet. We had a strong first race, before the ride-height issue. The second race we got that fixed and had a really good race. We were able to keep pace with everyone. We had a little bit of contact that bent our exhaust, so we lost a little drive, but it was a clean, fun race. The key was staying out of trouble, that’s what helped us get up to P-2.”

Adding to Flynn’s learning curve was the weekend weather, which cut back on pre-event preparation.

“This was only my second weekend at Road America – I raced there once in Trans Am and it monsooned the whole time!” Flynn said. “We had bad luck with our practice sessions, which had only about four laps each because of red flags. Then, qualifying got rained out, so I only had about 8 laps on the car going into the race. I’ve got to give a big shout-out to the team for getting the setup right, because we didn’t have much practice time to get it figured out.

“I love Road America, it’s a great track – four miles long, and has a little bit of everything” Flynn added. “The fans are incredible there. It was good to interact with them. Many of them came over to check out our car.”

Prior to coming to Porsche Carrera Cup, Flynn had been competing in the World Racing League, winning a recent nine-hour race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in an Audi, and the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, recording a pole and four podium finishes driving a Porsche 997 en route to garnering Rookie of the Year honors in 2017.

The Pro-Am 991 Class is specifically designed for the previous generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. It is a ‘stepping stone” for drivers looking to compete in the new GT3 Cup cars, designated type 992.

“We’re going to finish out the season,” Flynn said of his plans for Porsche Carrera Cup.

Next on the schedule is a Porsche takeover of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Porsche SportsCar Together Festival on Sept. 10-12. The Porsche Carrera Cup headlines the weekend with three races, sharing the event with five other Porsche race groups.
