Racers #Riding4JWIL to support Dempsey Challenge

18 September 2021— Whether it was visiting schools to talk about the key role that early diagnosis plays for allowing children to cope and strive with dyslexia, stepping up to be the point person for the IndyCar drivers council, the donation of his organs that helped save multiple lives, or his role as a father, Justin Wilson’s lasting legacy centers on helping others. That legacy also includes his participation in the Dempsey Challenge.

The Dempsey Challenge, presented by Amgen Oncology, is an annual run, walk, and cycle experience and is the primary fundraiser for the Dempsey Center. It is a weekend of celebration and remembrance to raise $1.5 million in critical funds that go directly to providing services to people impacted by cancer at no cost.

Initiated by actor and racer Patrick Dempsey, the Dempsey Challenge was originally held every fall in Maine, with avid cyclist Wilson having taken part in the grueling event on multiple occasions. The event has now expanded to provide the opportunity to raise funds and awareness no matter where you are.

This week, Wilson’s giving spirit will continue as a group of his family and friends will set off for a 50-mile ride to raise funds for the Dempsey Challenge. Longtime training partners JR Hildebrand, Jeremy Dale and Barry Waddell, as well as Julia Wilson and Justin’s younger brother Stefan, will continue a fall tradition with a group ride on the Platte River Trail starting in Brighton, Colorado.
