Indianapolis, Ind. (19 May 2022) – With Wednesday being cancelled due to rain, Meyer Shank Racing drivers Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud were back in action for the second full-day of Indianapolis 500 testing on Thursday.
Helio Castroneves, No. 06 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda:
Top Speed: 224.299 mph
No Tow Speed: 222.261 mph (12th)
Total Laps: 94
With Day 3 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway getting underway, Helio Castroneves started the day off with qualifying simulations at the top of the 12 o’clock hour. Once complete, the team made some additional adjustments heading into the rest of the afternoon. Once “Happy Hour” rolled around, Castroneves got back out on track with a gear change and several laps of pack running. The 4-time Indianapolis 500 champion finished 94 laps and closing out the day 22nd in the running order.
“Today was much better. Obviously the lap speed doesn’t represent how we necessarily feel about the day, because we feel good. We tried to draft, but the speed wasn’t there. The AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda seems to be moving in the right direction, and I feel a lot of confidence in the car right now.”
Simon Pagenaud, No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda:
Top Speed: 225.606 mph
No Tow Speed: 222.236 mph (13th)
Total Laps: 104
With a strong first day of testing on Tuesday, Simon Pagenaud was feeling comfortable despite the field missing one day of practice due to rain on Wednesday. Back on track on Thursday, Pagenaud found significant pace while running solo and finishing the day 13th in the no tow ranks. Pagenaud completed 104 laps which put him ninth fastest on the leaderboard.
“I feel pretty good today, we tested a lot of stuff and learned a lot. Obviously there was a big temperature change throughout the day, but overall we feel like we have good speed in qualifying trim. We’ll keep working at it every day and continue to step it up a notch. Great job from everyone at Meyer Shank Racing today.”
