Double Top Ten for Meyer Shank Racing at Mid-Ohio Honda Indy 200

#60: Simon Pagenaud, Meyer Shank Racing Honda

Lexington, Ohio (3 July 2022) – Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) treated its home-race crowd by placing both of its team cars in the top 10 in the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Sunday as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES reached the midway point of the season.

Helio Castroneves came on strong in the latter stages of the race to lead the MSR effort on the scenic road circuit, finishing eighth in the No. 06 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda for the team based in nearby Pataskala.

Simon Pagenaud finished 10th in the No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda. Pagenaud qualified sixth and ran fifth throughout the opening 28 laps prior to his pit stop. With a total of six yellow flags interrupting the action and pit cycles, Pagenaud was 11th on the  final restart with 18 laps remaining. Pagenaud took 10th with 10 laps left, and held the position all the way to the checkered flag to yield another top ten result.

Castroneves started 15th and was 16th following his first pit stop to switch over to Firestone primary tires. After the first quarter of the race, Castroneves was able to claw his way up the order. The two-time Mid-Ohio winner gained two positions on the final restart on the way to securing eighth in the order to close out the day.

After a weekend off, MSR returns to action on the streets of Toronto in the Toronto Indy Toronto on Sunday, July 17.

Driver Quotes:

Helio Castroneves:

“Great strategy from the team today. The AutoNation / SiriusXM machine wasn’t the fastest out there, but it was really consistent. We hit a good plateau and we were able to defend at times, and were able to attack at others, so it was pretty good. Obviously the yellows didn’t help overall, but at least our car was really good on restarts so that was so important. But we needed points, so this top ten is great and let’s go on to the next one!”

Simon Pagenaud:

“Overall I think it was a fantastic weekend on pace between qualifying and the race. We made a big step forward when it comes to road course pace. In the race we were lacking a little bit and we found ourselves in a difficult spot as a result of when the yellows came out. We lost a few positions but we were still able to finish in the top 10 and Helio was able to finish eighth, which is great for the team. The satisfaction is there and I’m really looking forward to the next race at Toronto.”
