Meyer Shank Racing Brings Strong Record of Success to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Live race coverage set for NBC on Sunday September 15th at 3:00pm ET

Pataskala, Ohio (9 September 2019) – Meyer Shank Racing drivers Trent Hindman and Mario Farnbacher are heading to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with the goal of scoring valuable IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship points with the No. 86 AutoNation Acura NSX GT3 on Sunday (Sept. 15 NBC 3:00pm ET).

Hindman and Farnbacher claimed the GTD championship lead after the team’s home race at Mid-Ohio in May and have yet to relinquish the lead, now with a 37-point advantage heading to California’s Monterey peninsula.

The Monterey Grand Prix will also mark the final round of the IMSA Sprint Cup Championship which sees the No. 86 Autonation Acura NSX just one point away from that championship title as Hindman and Farnbacher sit second.

MSR’s history at Laguna Seca gives the team a sense of confidence heading to the race weekend. MSR has entered 22 entries at Laguna Seca since 2005. The team scored its first pole position in 2005 with a Prototype and drove to a win in 2016 Prototype competition as well as claiming podiums in 2015 and 2017.

Last year, Katherine Legge scored the pole position on the way to victory, the fourth victory for the NSX platform.

Earlier this year, Farnbacher also scored a pole position at Laguna Seca behind the wheel of an Acura NSX in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. On top of that, he has a 2016 IMSA victory as well as a third place finish (2015) at the track to his credit.

“WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca has always been a good track to me and I’ve had some good results there,” said Farnbacher. “We will try to match up those results again this weekend. For us it’s important to finish the races and to score points to put towards the championship. I think we are in a good position to score some more points this weekend and our car has been good at this track in the past, so I’m pretty confident that we will have a good race.”

Hindman has had equal parts success and speed at Laguna Seca, having made starts at the track since 2013. He has four total Laguna victories in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo competition. Sunday’s race will mark his first IMSA WeatherTech start at Laguna.

“There’s a lot of consideration as to what may or may not happen for the Meyer Shank Racing team come Laguna Seca,” said Hindman. “All I know is that the No. 86 Autonation Acura won this race last year and Mario (Farnbacher) and I will be pushing like hell to make it two years in a row. A good balance of aggression and risk management has brought us this far, and we plan on changing nothing with our approach with two rounds remaining in the 2019 WeatherTech Championship season.”

The Monterey SportsCar Championship will be broadcast on NBC on Sunday, September 15th starting at 3:00pm ET. Live IMSA Radio coverage will also be provided on SiriusXM Ch. 202.
