Long Beach, Calif. (24 September 2021) – The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach (AGPLB) stages a big weekend of racing for Meyer Shank Racing’s (MSR) IMSA WeatherTech and INDYCAR SERIES programs. Dane Cameron was the first of the MSR squad to qualify for the AGPLB on Friday which will see him start fourth in the No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Acura ARX-05 DPi.
A quick start to the weekend saw Friday’s schedule include two practice sessions and qualifying. MSR showed quick pace early in the first session with Cameron and Olivier Pla laying down flying lap times. Unfortunately, a small mistake in practice 1 had a session-ending outcome when the No. 60 Acura made contact with one of the many walls that line the temporary street circuit.
With just over two hours until the next session, the crew got to work immediately to make repairs. Thanks to the crew’s quick work. Pla and Cameron were able to make the second practice session to fine tune the car before qualifying in the evening.
“I have to give a big thank you to the Meyer Shank Racing guys, they had a long day with two practice sessions and qualifying all crammed into one day and then a little bit of extra work on top of that,” said Cameron. “They busted their butts to get us out for FP2 and the car was good to go for qualifying, so big thanks to them”
Having started from the pole in 2018 onboard an Acura DPi, Cameron was hoping to replicate those results on Friday. Cameron was climbing the time charts, but with under two minutes to go, the session was ended under red. Cameron will start Saturday’s Acura Grand Prix from the outside of the second row in fourth.
“We missed some track time with an unfortunate incident in FP1 but the car rolled off the truck really strong and Oli and I were both happy,” said Cameron. “It seems like all the turbo cars didn’t have the pace of the Cadillacs, but we were the best of the rest of that crew and sometimes that’s all you can do. I was pretty happy with the car and we will see if we can make some magic happen tomorrow.”
NBCSN will carry live Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach race coverage starting at 5:00pm ET. IMSA Radio coverage will also be featured on SiriusXM Ch. 202.
