Inaugural Lime Rock Epic Set for October 9

Two-state Fondo Explores the Unpaved Roads of the Berkshires

LAKEVILLE, Conn. – The organizers of the season-opening Natchaug Epic will explore Connecticut’s other Quiet Corner with a new event based from the fabled raceway at Lime Rock Park. A showcase of the region’s autumn splendor, the first-year event will be held Sunday, Oct. 9.

“We recognized how bicycles could complement the beauty of our racetrack, especially in the fall season,” said Charles Delana, chief commercial officer of Lime Rock Park. “When we partnered with the promoters of Domestique Events for their experience, we recognized how the entire region’s beauty -waterfalls, covered bridges, New England town centers – offered that much more to a cycling tour.”

“The race track is glorious. Its history is profound,” said Richard Fries, event director. “The track is unique in how it is woven into the geology without traditional grandstands or fencing. But the unpaved and lightly traveled network of dirt roads stunned our route planners. This event will immediately become New England’s ‘classica delle foglie morte’, or ride of the falling leaves.”

Organizers chose to develop a dirt road tour to establish a cornerstone for a spectacular cycling weekend in the Berkshires.

The event will offer three options: The “Epic” will be a 68-mile route with nearly 6,000 feet of climbing and 13 unpaved sectors; the “Explorer” will be a 46-mile route with nearly 4,000 feet of climbing and 10 unpaved sectors. Organizers will also offer a gentle 18-mile “Express” route with just two easy dirt road sectors for beginners and novices.

All entrants will receive souvenirs, food, beverages and craft beers as part of their entry.

While the event is a recreational tour, some sectors will be timed to offer friendly competition with the top three finishers in certain categories recognized.

The Lime Rock Epic will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022. Organized by Connecticut-based Domestique Events LLC, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program.
