PT Autosport heads to Porsche’s Rennsport Reunion with Podium Momentum

Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America doubleheader to be the marquee races at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Porsche mega event

MILLVILLE, NJ (26 September 2023) – Coming off the team’s first double podium weekend of its rookie Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America season, PT Autosport with JDX Racing and driver Alex Sedgwick head to the Rennsport Reunion 7 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend – ready to compete in the marquee racing series on the legendary Porsche weekend.

Racing icon Brian Redman and longtime Porsche Cars North America publicist Bob Carlson formed the idea for Rennsport Reunion in 2001 as a way for drivers and fans alike to celebrate Porsche’s racing heritage. 2023 marks the seventh iteration of the event, which this year celebrates the 75th anniversary of Porsche and the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911. The weekend will be livestreamed in its entirety on the Rennsport Reunion website.

The weekend marks a chance for the 24-year-old Warwickshire, UK native to earn his first victory in the series, behind the wheel of his No. 98 PT Autosport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car. Sedgwick has impressed in his rookie season, currently fourth in the championship standings (just 26 points out of second and three points away from third) with four podium finishes in 12 races. It’s also the latest in a season that has seen the team compete at a succession of legendary racing venues, including the Long Beach Grand Prix, the Miami Grand Prix, Watkins Glen, Road America and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“It’s going to be an exciting event,” Sedgwick agreed. “It will be a cool experience to be a part of it, to see all the cars that Porsche brings – so much history. I’m definitely looking forward to that part of the weekend!”

PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers – a Bay Area native – agrees that the weekend carries a two-fold anticipation: the chance to capture victory on the penultimate series race weekend and the opportunity to be a serious Porsche fan.

“It’s incredible to be a part of this event,” said Myers. “I’ve been to a few Rennsport Reunions over the years and to see some of the most iconic race cars that have ever been on the face of the planet at such a legendary racetrack – and to see Alex race there – will make for an amazing weekend.”

Sedgwick saw the famed road course for the first time in a two-day test last week. As the team did at COTA and Indianapolis, Sedgwick tested the first day and teammate Will Martin (who lies in second position in the championship standings) tested the second day. Each driver was on hand for the others’ test, giving them the chance to observe, check data and review driving lines.

“We’ve done that at previous tests, and it worked well,” said Sedgwick. “Will and I have different driving styles and we want different things from the car, and it always seems to end up with us meeting in the middle. The track is awesome; the repave feels a great deal like the repave at Road America. You have to stay on line and be precise, and that suits me. It will be important to qualify well, as there are few passing opportunities and it will be super hard to make a move stick.  JDX has done well here in the past so hoping for more.”

“We are excited to be the official racing series at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend,” said Myers. “I’m a Bay Area kid (born in Livermore, Calif.) so this is one of my home tracks. I can’t wait to see how much Alex loves the track and how well he does there. We’re going in strong, and I think he has a real shot at securing third place in the championship – to do that in his first year in the series and first year in a Porsche 992 Cup Car is very impressive. It shows just what he’s capable of and I think we’re just scratching the surface.”

The Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America will have two practice sessions and a qualifying session ahead of the Sunday doubleheader. Race one takes the green flag Sunday at 12:05 p.m. EDT, with race two later in the day at 6:35 p.m. EDT. The race will be broadcast live on IMSA.tv, the NBC Peacock streaming app, the Rennsport Reunion website, and PorscheCarreraCup.us.

PT Autosport would like to thank JDX Racing partners Byers/Porsche Columbus, and Renier Construction.
