Skip Barber’s barber set to cut hair as a fundraiser for Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
LAKEVILLE, CONN. (16 JULY 2024) Lime Rock Park and Skip Barber have always been “a cut above the rest,” and on Saturday, that will become a literal statement as The Park renames the Lime Rock Gear Shop to “The Barber Shop” as part of the Year of Skip Barber celebration. The dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 20, at noon in front of the newly rebranded shop.
To commemorate this special occasion, Skip Barber’s personal barber, Corey “Smitty” Smith will be cutting Skip Barber’s hair live at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Fans are also invited to participate in this unique event. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the deck outside of The Barber Shop, Smitty will be offering haircuts to attendees, with a minimum suggested donation of $40 made to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a non-profit founded by Paul Newman that is dedicated to providing “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families.
“We are thrilled to honor Skip Barber in this fun and whimsical way,” said Lime Rock Park Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Kistner. “The Barber Shop will stand as a tribute to Skip’s enduring influence on motorsports and Lime Rock Park. We invite everyone to join us for this celebration and support a great cause; 100 percent of all the money raised from the haircuts will go back to Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.”
Two generations of Smiths have been responsible for Barber’s signature hairstyle. Smitty’s uncle Ronnie Smith was a car enthusiast and became Skip’s barber in the 90s. Following Ronnie’s passing in 2016, Smitty took over Skip as a client and has been cutting his hair at his shop in Sharon, Conn., ever since.
