TeamTGM to Return to IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Competition at Road America

Atlanta, Ga. (17 July 2017) – TeamTGM will return to IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge competition at Road America as the organization regroups following an event-ending practice crash in the previous IMSA outing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP).

Driver and Team Owner Ted Giovanis, who shares the No. 46 Porsche Cayman GT4 with Guy Cosmo, was hit hard by an errant ST class entry during the first practice session of the CTMP weekend with the car sustaining significant damage. Though Giovanis was evaluated and released from the infield medical center for ankle soreness, further evaluation with medical professionals in his home state revealed a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Giovanis will undergo surgery this week.

“I’m obviously disappointed that because of an unnecessary accident, we were taken out early at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and that we won’t be racing at Lime Rock,” said Giovanis. “It’s a difficult situation in that this was something that happened beyond our control but with that said, we look forward to returning to competition at Road America next month, where we had our first podium last year. I thank everyone at TeamTGM for their support and hard work to have us ready for our return at Road America.”

The team plans to complete the final four races of the 2017 season, beginning with Road America. The track is one that has already been a highlight for the team. The 2016 visit to the Wisconsin track saw Giovanis and Cosmo breakthrough for a third place podium finish for TeamTGM.

“Road America is a track that we enjoy and where we’ve seen success as a team, so it is important that we return to racing in Wisconsin,” said Giovanis. “We are passionate about IMSA racing here at TeamTGM and hope to finish out the year strongly in the final four races.”

The team is looking forward to as swift of a recovery as is possible for Giovanis, and will finalize details about the racing program in the coming weeks.
