Tuscany, Italy (20 March 2024) – The Heart of Racing heads to Italy for the next round of Creventic’s 24H Series’ Championship, the Hankook 12H Mugello. The trio of Gray Newell, Ian James, and Roman De Angelis look to defend their 2023 win at the challenging Mugello Circuit.
During the 2023 edition of the twelve hour enduro, the Heart of Racing team made a great comeback from an incident at the beginning of the race that put the team a few laps down from the leaders. All three drivers were able to drive perfect stints and the team was able to execute flawless pit stops leading the way to a class win in GT3 competition.
Most recently Newell started the 2024 24H Series season with the 24 hours of Dubai in January. Newell was teamed up with Pierre Klienubing and Heart of Racing’s FIA World Endurance Championship driver Daniel Mancinelli after transportation issues pushed the race back to clash with IMSA’s WeatherTech Championship’s 24 Hours At Daytona. The trio crossed the finish line in fifth.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Mugello this weekend, once again with the Heart of Racing, SPS and my teammates Gray and Ian,” said De Angelis. “I haven’t had an outing in this car since Spa last summer, and there is no better place to get back into it than at one of my favorite tracks, Mugello. We had success here last year and with a great team and teammates. I look forward to fighting up front again!”
The Mugello twelve hour race will be split into two halves, the first half will be on Saturday and will last six and a half hours (7:30am ET), the second half will be on Sunday for the remaining five and half hours (4:00am ET). You can watch qualifying and both halves of the race on 24H Series YouTube channel.
