Racing to End Alzheimer’s looks to end season on a high note at Road Atlanta
September 28, 2026The checkered flag on the Indy IMSA race–which went to the BMW as WRT ticked off another accomplishment on their international roster of wins–means that we are kicking off a pretty intense stanza for many in the sports car world.
Next week many are making the choice to experience either the sweltering environs of Barber Motorsports Park for SRO, or make the trip to Japan for WEC, which just makes you want to take a nap in anticipation of the severe jet lag.
From there, it is the IMSA closer at Road Atlanta which will once again have a championship conversation surely all the way to the checkered flag. And to follow that, it’s back to Indy for many as SRO closes out the season with the 8 Hour.
An intense run of weekends that will have many looking to find the inside of their eyelids come October 12…
Within all of these events swill be discussions and decisions made about the future-whether that is for driver line ups, brand affiliations, what teams drivers want to align with for the future. The future is also a big conversation, as reports of an FIA ACO rift, could see the sports car racing world wrested from a period of growth, strong manufacturer support, and robust audience expansion turn quickly into a period of uncertainty, conflict, and potentially, a split. Which would do nothing for the sport. Here is hoping that cooler heads prevail.
In the meantime, safe travels and dont’ forget those eyemasks for the long flights!
